It looks like my screen is cracking on the inside. I can see light bleeding through at all four corners just about 1/8 of an inch outside the screen's viewable area. Lower left is the worst. There is actually a right angle of light viewable.
It's hard to see right now and I didn't notice it until I was in a dark room but now I can see it in the light if I'm looking for it. This sucks!!! I really didn't want to have to return this phone but I've babied the hell out of it! |

You guys should probably post again in this thread:
http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...nt-pocket.html to try and keep it all in one place and so everyone can get an idea of the size of the problem and how it was dealt with by Sprint (some have been lucky and others not). Right now it's looking like a design/production flaw. |

First of all it's made by the Taiwanese and second of all, it's made by CMCS (part of the "Foxconn Technology Group"). Foxconn is the same company that makes other shoddy "low bid" products like Motorola and Nokia phones as well as Apple Macintosh motherboards and devices such as the iPod Nano and iPhone.

That doesn't mean a lot, the quality of the device in each case will be determined by contractual concerns and basically how much Palm wants to pay per unit.

It looks like the housing has thin plastic which allows light to go through. IE at the gesture area. Unfortunately the rest of the housing has the same material so when you look at the phone in a dark room, the rest of the housing also allows light to bleed through.

Well that was my point. I've seen multiple threads where people blame all Pre issues on the fact that it's supposedly Chinese but it has a lot more to do with the design and the amount of money Palm wanted to (or could afford to) spend. The manufacturers are capable of turning out all levels of quality based on budget.

My device is doing the same thing and seems to be getting worse. It looks like the glue (?) or whatever they use to fasten the screen is coming off. I'm also wondering if the heat when charging 104F is making it worse.
