    How's your battery life?

Does the back-ups, synergy, apps, etc kill our batteries? How come others seem to last a day with heavy usage, where as myself, I can only last about 10-12hrs on standby/sleep?

I've been doing unlimited since the old flip phone days. Data use adds up fast. Even your initial contact sync adds up

That's why as soon as I get home tonight, I am going to grep the ROM and find a way to kill continuous contact syncs. To me those are likely the biggest culprits, more than email, since I really don't know how often it contacts Facebook and Google to update contact information.

Well if this is true a year from now if there are a few million Pre's on Sprints network, it will be chocked to super slow speeds by all the data usage and will not be the data speed demon we now have come to love.
Sprint client since 1998. Treo 650, Treo 700, Treo 755p, Palm Pre till it died--- now have HTC EVO

This is one of the big reasons I left ATT. So many iPhone users on their network, the "3G" speeds were laughable. EDGE was often faster on my Bold.

Now, I'm enjoying the lightening fast speed of Sprint's EVDO network. That is, until they grow like ATT did after the iPhone and everything slows to a crawl. Hopefully the "4G" network can handle this.

When I updated my Pre to 1.0.2, the 67MB OTA update made me think Sprint is very confident about it's network capacity. ATT would have restricted the update to WiFi only...b/c they know their network can't handle it!

I've used about 200 MBs so far. Streaming music and Sprint TV are the main culprits. Can't wait until I can burn up the network with Slingmobile!!

The Sprint network is so under-utilized that I sometimes think I'm the only one in my area using a tower. It should be able to take a few million new subscribers. But in the same breath, if Sprint knows better, the reason I came over was superior call/data quality and the cheaper prices for the set of features I wanted on my 2 lines. If that quality goes away, I'm always ready to switch to another carrier... with WebOS obviously.

Good to know thanks, you've just given me another reason to stick with my 2G Centro on AT&T. I doubt though that the Pre network load will get as bad as the iPhone load on AT&T.

Almost. 1 Character is a BYTE, not a bit.

    Essentially 8 bits=1byte

A bit is 1 character (like the letter "A"), and 1 byte carries 8 bits.

    1 megabit = 1 048 576 bits

    1 megabyte = 1 048 576 bytes

    So...

    1 megabyte = 8 388 608 bits

Another way to look at it is that there are 1024 of each "previous" step to get to the next step.

For example, there are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte, and 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte.

I'm sorry to get off topic...

I'm pretty sure, though, that it is MB as opposed to Mb (lowercased b being bit)...though I didn't look at my own usage to confirm this.

Not bad but certainly weaker than my 755p (but again, I rarely used the 755p for anything other than calls/calendar/memos, and on the web, with their browser "Blazer" -what an oxymoron- was such a slug).
I've used the Pre so much in the first few days that, honestly, the battery was able to keep up with me, though I had to charge it religiously overnight.

I downloaded the update via wifi.

I'm at 78MB, but I can't remember if I downloaded the update before or after connecting to my home wifi. I don't use wifi at work yet (too lazy to look up the settings), but I do use it at home if I remember to turn it off.

My battery life isn't great. I need to start charging around 3:00pm or I'd run out before I get home.

    Unlimited KB included
    95,657 KB used

But that was including my Touch Pro which I also used for streaming and tethering all the time.

Why won't Palm & Sprint provide specs on the battery life other than the talk time of 5 hours? What about standby time EVDO vs. Roaming? Talk time EVDO vs. Roaming? I can't find it anywhere. All the other phones on Sprint's website seem to have details.

Megabytes - unit of data measurement.

Megabites - unit of measurement of bandwidth of food to my mouth.

186,282 KB showing on my account so far. Not too bad. I plan to increase that exponentially over the next few weeks, though.

my guess is that your Pre is cheating on you and downloading porn on its own while you sleep. OR maybe The Google is using everyone's PRE processing power while they sleep to help them take over the world.
