xxxx@sprintpcs.com email account?

I went to Device Info > More Info and noticed I have an email account: myname01@sprintpcs.com. What's up with this? I just sent a test email to that address from my desktop computer and the mail apparently was delivered. At least it hasn't been bounced back to me. It didn't come to my Pre and I have no idea where it went. I never set up this account, so where did it come from?

I noticed this too, I think this has something to do with Sprint's picture mail system though since the phone does true MMS it isnt needed.

Makes sense. It's obviously auto-created by Sprint based on my name, but I've not heard it mentioned anywhere. A simple test email with plain text went off into cyberspace somewhere, presumably to die. Another message with a small (48 kb) jpg pic did the same.

Also it might have something to do with setting up out going smtp account for POP account.

Maybe its the default name they would use if you need one.

when you log into your sprint account you can check that mail

I can web to pop.sprintpcs.com , enter my user id and password and retrieve my sprintpcs.com mail. I've had this on my sprint account for years...you can also use the account for smtp/pop retrieval purposes...

I was able to get into my account, but the only reason I knew the password was because Sprint CS just setup this account for me on Sunday. We were troubleshooting a POP email problem I'm having on the Pre with getting SSL cert time\date error.

you must be new to sprint... ALL sprint phones have an @sprintpcs.com email address.

it is used for a bunch of things... its the username (login) for data, pics, email, etc..

I also am new to Sprint, I come from AT&T for the Pre. I noticed that mine has my name misspelled, can this be corrected? Also is there a default password?

I thought sprint did away with pcs mail and it's only used for smtp and data access.

that email-address-like code is your data access, consider it a login name for Sprint's data access authentication protocol

BTW, its this kind of Sprint-specific crap that makes Sprint and Verizon's data networks non-interoperable... and why, when you flash a Sprint phone to Verizon, etc... the data still doesn't work...

I used to use my @sprintpcs.com email address as my main email address and I thought they shut it down already, but I still get email from it every once in awhile...

Sprint has never shutdown their @sprintpcs.com email address...They said they would the in dec 2008 but it never happen. I still use mines both on my phone and when i login from my computer.
One of the nice thing about sprintpcs email is that you can set it up to send you a text msg when u get an email.

I guess it's no longer an accessible account for end users with an MMS-capable phone. At least I can't access it. Not a clue how to even go about trying.
