WebOS is excellent for an OS that was just launched. I don't think so many people would be complaining if they would have bought Storms at launch day. Sure Palm could have used better hardware; however, now they have something to work on. I am usually not the person to write these type of posts, but after owning a Storm, I think the Pre is excellent.

Companies should not be releasing products that they need to work on. Release a finished, polished product! That is what beta testers and testing teams are for...to work out things. There is too much wrong to feel complete.

People are complaining because that's just what some people do. It wasn't long ago that the biggest complaint was that Palm/Sprint were taking so long to release the phone. Now, it's that Palm/Sprint released it too soon.

    SIgh.

No, there are too many people who bought a phone without paying attention to features.

WebOS seems to work as advertised. Apps and OTA updates shall follow regardless.

I think some people just like to complain. However, some people have raised some legitimate issues that need to be addressed by Palm, such as the lock-ups, overheating, and screen issues. I don't think it's "complaining" to discuss things that are actually wrong with the phone and are a widespread issue.

Of course, making three identical threads and in the process clogging up these forums is not helping either.

    So true.
That's history repeating itself over and over.

    Another common thing to note;
Most people post when they have something that frustrates them.

Everybody else is playing with their Pre - Very few will stop to post 'My Pre is still working fine.'

Many Ol' Timers remember that same scenario with the 650.
So a thread got started; 'My Treo is Still Doing Fine'
    It got huge

I have a GSM Treo Pro. I haven't posted over in the Pro forums for ages because my device is Rock Solid Stable - Everything just works.

Always remember. For every 1 person you see complaining on here there is probably at least another 1000 enjoying their Pre problem free.

It is human nature to complain about everything. I love reading posts complaining about webOS. Anything can be changed in software.

i agree. the fact that apple launched the iphone without ANY way to install ANY 3rd party apps (legally and easily) and it got rave reviews, while the lack of thousands of apps is now held against the pre, a 1.0 phone. The concept that all phones must have tons of apps available because apple has it is absurd. Why didn't reviewers get upset when Apple didn't have apps? Every other smart phone at the time had TONS of apps available (and even most feature phones!). Why wasn't Apple held to the same standard?

If you work in technology everything is released in Beta.

    This happens every smartphone release.

If you look in the archives of every Smart phone released, the boards look exactly like they look today. Since when I first came to Central board people complain that the phones were released with bugs and that this is the phone is going to kill Palm, that was 10 phones ago.

I totally agree with Berd, it is the nature of messageboards/forums.. people are more likely to post if they have a problem then when everything works..

If you think this is bad, you should check out the forum of the Creative Zen media players..
I have a Creative zen Vision:M and though it is on the bulky size it is a great device that does everything you need and more... but still 99% of the post are complaints... some over real petty things..

I like my Vision:M But I ran out of space and was forced to buy a Zune. While the OS is certainly not better, it gets the job done.

bit offtopic but I have the 60Gb version, that will do me fine
Pitty it is so much thicker than the 30Gb version though I belive V2.0 is lots thinner..

I wish it had the wheelcontroll of the iPod though..
But the fact it plays just about any media file out of the box without conversion is something I'm not willing to sacrifice..

In response to the OP's question, I acknowledge that it's a new OS and that it will evolve in time...just as it will be complemented with software that will fill the holes...BUT I am still shocked that so much functionality that existed in the old PalmOS was just left out.

Some of the PalmOS features that were omitted were *very* useful...like a notification light, times during which mail would be (and would *not* be) autosynched (so I am not bugged in the middle of the night), ability to copy *any* text, text message templates in SMS, ability to delete and "mark read" all messages in an inbox at once, etc. I could name probably 50 to 100 such things...and it's not like Palm hasn't been working on this OS for the last 4 years.

Frankly, I think many of the complaints are valid...and I think folks should be able to vent that frustration. We aren't talking about slamming Palm for not delivering the perfect (and obviously unattainable) OS. Some of us are just shocked at how many step backwards they have taken. The WebOS is still awesome, but let's not pretend that it is better than the PalmOS in every respect. In fact, many folks here are now making excuses for Palm when they were crowing about the exact same omissions from the iPhone.

So let *me* ask a question - why do so many people here feel the need to make excuses for Palm? Why can't we just have a reasonable discussion without people trying to invalidate the needs/wants/desires of others...especially when what they want is what they had on a Treo for the last half decade?

    cheers,
    Steve
