I can't really justify spending another $20 a month for the broadband card when I already have a $100 unlimited plan for my phone. Hope that doesn't put me with the whining SERO crowd, but the company is already dropping coin. It's not like we had things on the cheap. I think we have three phones set up that way. Think I'll head over to the Pro forum and keep tabs on Sprint and the Android.
i saw a special on sprint.com where they were offering $10 off that package. $140 vs. $150/month? SE + data card. maybe talk to retentions??? damn it i wanted to hear your PRE review!!!!!

To all you Lemmings out there that can't live without your cell phones...you know who you are.....can't be in a room for .5 seconds alone without using the trinket......come on.....this phone is for you.

Seriously......this thing is not for the business user RIGHT NOW!!

I agree with Gekko.....I probably couldn't live without my phone during the business day...and this thing just can;t run with the power user.

Think of it this way.....it would be like putting a stop light every two car lengths on a street......OK I get it..."Multi-tasking"....but if it takes too long to get between tasks.....then true muti-tasking is worthless.

Just because you can have severe ADD with this phone (multiple open tasks)...doesn't mean that you can hang with me opening and closing each task as I need it.

To you that can not understand that having a different opinion than you is actually a healthy and educational situation.....then crawl back under that rock and continue to use a cell phone/gadget as the "HEART" of your life instead of the "TOOL" that helps you be efficient and have better success, and in turn, allows you to enjoy the life that is and always will be surrounded by others....Say hi to the person in the elevator..if you're not afraid of your own shadow!

There is no joy in life better than having a little extra time to enjoy something very simple......maybe like 15 seconds of complete silence and contemplation......(Try it once...I promise it will be enjoyable)

    Sorry to hi-jack

I am considering exchanging mine (serial 5V9) because the screen is distorted as others have mentioned, but not because of the heat (it is never too hot). There is no way I will switch to a different phone. I might return the touchstone because I felt ripped off not getting another wall plug and micro usb cable.

How is there even an argument that the centro is better than the pre? You are talking about a cheap PalmOS phone vs. a exponentially more advanced pre. Seriously if you think that the centro is better, then the pre was never meant to be for you.

we'll see what happens when my business rep calls back. I still don't understand why I'd have to pay more when I'm already on a $99 unlimited plan. The guy on the phone was all set to send me a return label too. Even called me back when I hung up on him. Didn't realize he had put me on hold...haha.

Pixi: Sold. Pre: Passed off to another rep. Touchpad: Just a toy until Cloud syncing arrives, and a better doc editor.

5Y9 here and so far I am keeping it. And for those that say a BBerry is more productive, after using my pre for a few days, going back to my Curve is painful as hell, just using universal search for starters, the browser, real html email and so much more.

you obviously have a reading comprehension issue if you don't understand the issues people have clearly expressed here. I don't think anyone would have really predicted Palm taking major steps backward in PIM functionality, not to mention the inability to download files from the browser. Thinking about it, it sounds like that would kill the idea of using an NAS or any online storage to store files you wish to download onto the Pre as they all work through a web browser. Wow, that is so F*d up if that's true.

I mean..... I don't think anyone here would say that a Palm Os phone was better... however for what they do with it...... probably exponentially better.

I'm assuming you are a clock puncher..... hourly and one foot out the door 3 minutes before the bell rings...... for us that hunt and gather..... time is of the essence... and with small battery life and molasses in January like operating speed....... yeah... Palm Os is better right now.

I could run laps around anyone right now with my 755p vs a Pre because you'd choke on the same tasks with wait time..... while I'd be opening and closing each app as I need it.

    Cheers

    Serial: 5U9

Battery life is less than 10 hrs, yellow area bottom right corner, 0-1 signal bars. I'm going back to AT&T and my unlocked E71-2 NAM

And don't get me wrong, there's a lot to love about the Pre, but in many ways it's the same problem as the original iPhone... for all the kick-*** stuff it can do, it leaves you wanting much, much more. (Although I do believe that in time, it will deliver on its promise, and I'm certainly ready to revisit it again in the future.)

That said, I'm having fun using it and being my first experience with Sprint has been overwhelmingly positive. My only lament with them is that it's not GSM service... my wife is from Ukraine and one or both of us travel there at least once a year to visit her family, meaning the Pre would (for now) stay at home anyway, since it would be mostly useless there. But, I knew that going in, and wanted to experience a first-generation phone with a first-generation OS anyway.

I wrote a fairly extensive list of pros & cons about the Pre on my blog, if anyone's bored and their head hasn't already burst from having too much Pre-formation as it is:

Part 1 (acquiring the Pre): Blogging Bookwalter╗ Blog Archive ╗ iCaved: Palm Pre edition (Part 1)
Part 2 (using the Pre): Blogging Bookwalter╗ Blog Archive ╗ iCaved: Palm Pre edition (Part 2)

It's been interesting spending so much time on this site in recent weeks too, with all the anticipation leading up to the launch and the speculation about what it can or can't do, followed by the post-purchase highs & lows... totally mirrors the original iPhone experience, so it was a lot like reliving that again with a group of Palm fans.
    I really like your comparison.

the bashers here are not true business power users. they are students, academics, "scientists", clerks, help deskers, bottle washers, etc. they have 20 people in their contacts and 2 events in their calendar. what could they possibly know or care about PIM?

Not sure yet. I need a few more days of evaluation before deciding on keeping the Pre or re-activating my Centro. I finally have my battery life/heat problem under control, but if it requires turning off every cool feature the Pre has, why bother?

I dont get why people wont hold out for the 30 days instead of waiting 4 days and giving up. Those are the kind of people who you never want playing on your sports team, soon as you give up a run/goal/touchdown they give up and cry.

sometimes you get drunk and you think you see a 9 but you wake up hungover with a 3. then it's time to just cut your losses and get the hell out of Dodge because the 3 is always going to be a 3.

I hear ya. I'm surprised my rep hasn't gotten back to me yet. He's usually on the ball, and I bugged him with a VM and a text. There's only so many evenings to dedicate time to getting a phone up and running. Wish I could do the legwork with the Palm profile thing and migration, but you can't do squat until the phone is actually activated. It's literally a river stone at the moment.

Gekko, thats a ****-poor excuse. You havent even given palm a chance to release any software updates.

    +1

just because benefits of PalmOS are being mentioned doesn't mean it belongs in the no man's land of cross platform chat. Maybe if you mention Pre2 it'll get moved to the future device forum.
