So I went to pay my bill, depressed about a situation that happened before I left. I expected a big crowd but it was dead empty. So I went ahead and played with the demos without a lot of enthusiasm due to the posts I read here.

And I like this phone. A lot. It feels great in the hand. I've gotten used to my Centro's keyboard but it was a process. The Pre's keyboard is similar but stiffer and I am sure I will get used to it. The calendar wasn't sluggish. The memos is GREAT and fun. The corkboard makes it fun like you are doing post its at the office. I called the demo just to see the multi task in action and became jealous LOL. I was browsing the web and my screen did not blank out and I didn't have to go back to the web and load everything back up. That is a wonderful idea and I am glad they incorporated it. I did not feel any razor sharp edges and the phone isn't that hard to slide.

If I were eligible for a full upgrade I'd get the Pre. But for now I will enjoy my Centro.

Exactly! A person should discover for themselves that the Pre works for them by personally checking it out...In the words of LRH, "That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true."

So when are you eligible for upgrade?

i agree, everyone needs to go try this phone, and any other phone for that matter, in person and decide for Themselves. it's fine to get an understanding for how it works, what some Legitimate problems are and what not from a forum or reviews but in the end it's what works for you.

in the same boat here in terms of waiting for my full upgrade rebate. i'm fine with my centro as well till august

Wow...And I thought I had it bad... My contract resets April 2010. Until then, I guess me and the 755 will have to get along.

I'm not to upset though. I'm really looking forward to whatever upgrades/mods Palm makes to the next iteration of the Pre.

I'll take a 2nd gen Pre, thank you very much.

Nearly every negative post I have read are people that thought the Pre could/should do something that anyone that's followed the news knows it wouldn't at launch.

In other words, it seems 90% of the whiners and phone returners are just lazy buyers that didn't do their research.

And that is harsh, but true. The potential buyers that are doing their research have to filter through the crap on this forum that folks didn't read about. It'll probably turn them away

Sorry, not true at all. There seem to be quite a few real bugs that there was no indication of before people actually bought and started using the Pre. Yes, some of the things people are complaining about maybe they should have known about, but problems with updates made in facebook not appearing in contacts, with symbols not usable in entry fields in the browser, with the Pre locking up, are NOT things that were known before.

And, even given that some of these issues were identified in the day or two before launch, it doesn't change the fact that some of these missing features are hard to swallow. The Pre lacks things that are common place on phones you get free, and that the P-OS has had for 15 years.

Like the ability to shoot video, not just stills...

And, yes, because I've followed the Pre's development over the last 6 1/2 months I've been aware of this from day one. But none-the-less we're still talking about a $549 smart phone that can't shoot video. Not that it's a deal-breaker or anything. But c'mon...your free Samsung bricks shoot video.

The PRE reminds me of Flight Simulator from MS. They provide the platform and a few started planes etc...etc. The public and third party companies provide the content. Extra planes, textures, better flight navigation etc....etc. That's how MSFS stayed around for so long....actually 5 or 6 versions and is a very successful software title. The same with Palm, PALM provides the platform and the public provides the custom content. Over time, the PRE can only get better and better!!!

Yeah, this is a great post. Try it before you buy it. Yesterday (Sunday), someone was in the store returning his Pre. He just didn't like it. If he had tried it first or at least done his homework on precentral.net, he would have known that from the beginning. Instead, he wasted one of the phones that someone else could've been loving right now.
