I'd love to see a 40GB version. But no, I would not pay $100 extra for a 16GB unit.

Absolutely. I may not buy it at 8gig- too small. Plus, in six months or so it'll be at Verizon, plus by that time it will probably have 16 gigs for the smallest one at the current price. But, I'd pay extra now to get the 16 rather than wait.

Same here... no but if the option where there, maybe but proably not.

I voted no for the following reason:
With 16 Gb I still wouldnt be able to store my whole MP3 collection so I still would have to make a sub section..

So it would have to be something like 64Gb to make me want to pay more...

I'll tell you what would be awesome. let us keep our 8gigs, and then offer another 64gigs or something OTA to store stuff on, and can be retrieved to play/use/view on your phone OTA. Downside? Sure, This is based on your connection and coverage.

I'd pay $100 more for 16gb more but not 16gb total. I'm on board with $50 more for 16gb total. I paid $170 for my 32gb Creative Zen. $300 for a 16gb phone? no.

I wouldn't buy an argument based on iphone pricing as that pricing was put in place almost a year ago and times change. I'd rather see 2-4gb on board and a card slot. Card would be purely for media storage and the onboard memory could be for programs, OS, random downloads and so on.

16GB for $299 without MIR would be good but if the iPhone does come out with a 32GB for $299 it would look really bad for the Pre.

Not even close to filling up my current 2GB card. So doubt I'll need more than 8GB for some time.

It looks like the next Iphone will have 16gb @$199 and 32gb @$299 storage.

Palm 8gb @$199 looks expensive. You know how Apple will market there as some sort of bargain - but not when you include the line rental.

Palm needs a refresh - bite the bullet and offer a 16gb version for $199 in September and offer existing 8gb owners a $100 rebate.

I never understood, even on the iphone, using a phone as your primary music player, which I feel would be a semi requirement to necessitate that much space. With programs like slingbox, orb, dropbox, and other cloud technologies, the real benefit is in STREAMING content, not in housing it on the device.

Like I said, even with an iphone, I would feel sort of anxious using it as a primary player. For one, because it lacks hardware buttons (thus no ability to switch tracks w/o looking at it at the gym or on a run) and two because it eats at the battery, which is the main priority number ONE when it comes to a phone, imo.

Now, in the next gen of the pre when it starts at 16 AND has a slot for an sd card, I won't bat an eye, as it will let me save some movies to the card or something.

How they couldn't have found room under the keyboard to put in a microSD card slot is beyond me. With that, this phone would have been near-perfect and a definite Iphone destroyer. It's still really nice though and I'll be getting one

Whats the possibility of Palm sticking a card slot into the touchstone jacket?

Having a workout playlist helps in not having to switch tracks a lot. Also the music player hardly kills the battery. It's 24 hours of music playback on the iPhone. If you break it down, 6 hours to use 25% of your battery is a good amount of music for a day.

I agree with other people. For the current price, there should be 16GB of storage. For $100 more, I would expect 32GB.

running that radio all the time will really suck the battery, I'd rather have my media mostly on the device with the ability to fetch something from the cloud occasionally. At least until they perfect nanowire batteries. Additionally, when I am traveling I am frequently in locations with no (or primitave) cell services, ie no EVDO etc.

That said, $100 is to much for a 8GB bump, I would however pay $100 for 16GB and a microSDHC slot and higher capacity battery

I say yes, but I'm not sure if I will fill the seven free GBs that comes with the Pre.

The only way to connect it would be through the USB port. Nothing I've read (yet) suggests the Pre has USB host capability (USB-OTG). SO I'm going to guess the possibility is virtually nil.

I'm with Stihl. No because I'm not going to be using it as a music player, except maybe for Pandora once in a while, and so 8GB is plenty. I'm keeping my Zune because I want physical buttons so I can switch tracks and adjust the volume without taking it out of my pocket. I also don't want to worry about killing the battery because I absolutely live on my Treo, and it going out costs me more than just being without a phone for a while.

Incidentally, the Zune HD doesn't have buttons anymore so I'm probably going to have to switch brands yet again when it comes time to get a new music player. I think it's still got a couple of years left in it though.

    Agreed.
