"The Pre will connect with Apple's iTunes software and download music and photos as an iPhone or iPod can, which may be a first for a device not made by Apple."

Why do people keep repeating this? Can't you hook up any generic mp3 player that uses USB storage and copy files from iTunes?

Only with add-on software. The Pre does it natively.

I would expect a few more of these shallow write ups in the next few days out of the NYC media. There's what's been billed as an executive breakfast in NYC on Thursday or Friday as part of the launch plans, and if you were a writer covering the mobile phone beat, you'd probably go to it, get some free food, throw a few paragraphs together, get a pre photo of someone holding a Pre, and then onto the next story.

That's how it's done. Unless of course the hurried, underpaid writer is pressed for time, in which case he'd/she'd just copy the latest Palm press release, change a few words, and then move onto the next story.
