Originally, Palm's (and Sprint's, I think) website listed BT Tethering as a feature. I think Palm realized it was in there, and quietly "disabled" the feature. That's why most folks expect we'll see it third party.

Yeah but with a 5GB cap, I'd go over pretty quick. And I don't really download too much stuff, but streaming video and music would send you over the top pretty quick. If I were a light data user, it would be a good way to save some green. Though my home internet is pretty cheap compared to my air card.

But you forget.... it's not fair I can't afford a Porsche. I want one, I deserve one... and I think they are overpriced. I'm going to go for a test drive and just not return it. Because I want it.

So until Porsche comes down in their prices, I'm not going to pay them a red cent.

Don't worry... it's not like this sense of entitlement got America into the mess we're in now... Just because I only make $40k doesn't mean I shouldn't buy an $800k house here in CA!! I'll just fib a little on my application.... I really deserve that house...

Then honestly, you really shouldnt be looking down your nose at people who occasional tether, when you got basically everything paid for by your employer. We all arent that lucky you know.

I could see a daily use thing being a customer service nightmare. I could see a $10-20 chg per month but only when you actually use it.

As far as routers are concerned, Cradlepoint is the company. Multi antenna home based ones. Completely portable battery operated ones. You name it, they have an option. I sold my one cradlepoint when I got comcast, but at the time my Sprint card was as fast as my DSL connection getting around 1.4mb on the download. Did much better on the upload side though, but I think my DSL was around 128k on the upload. Haven't bought the new CTR500 yet which is what I'll use for the race in June so I haven't tested it against cable. I think upload speed of Rev A is supposed to be similar to cable, but cable can get over 2mb on the download. Then again, cable isn't portable.

So your financial situation should dictate your ethical character or lack of it?

everyone steals music. artists make enough money so who cares you're taking money out of their pockets. They won't miss it. While you're at it. You need an ipod to play that music. Might as well take one of those too. Apple is a huge greedy company. They're so restrictive and overpriced. They won't notice if you pocket one. And the oil companies are raking you over the coals too. Find a gas station that will let you pump first so you can fill up and take off without paying. Screw them for hosing you the past few years. And the car you put that gas into. Auto execs make a ton of money, flying around in private jets owning million dollar homes. Might as well steal one of their cars too. They won't miss one off the lot and you have to play your music in something while you're away from home.

That's actually not me talking. Kid Rock did a spoof PSA about stealing music that went something like that. Was kinda funny actually.

Uh, dude. No matter who said it, dont EVEN try to make the case that sharing music or tethering is the same as stealing a car. Do these giant corporations show any ethical character towards me?? Hardly ever.

I think I pay them quite enough, thanks. No ones gonna lose any money if I occasionally tether. And by "occasionally" I mean like once every other month for maybe 30 minutes of light browsing. Especially since I really dont even use my phone's data plan to begin with on the phone itself.

Im not paying $50 extra + a wireless card for that, say what you all want. Im just not. And I'll sleep like a baby cause I know Im not taking advantage of anything or overdoing it.

Actually, he still has to pay taxes on that "reimbursement". So, it's not as good a deal as you think. Besides, we have NO idea what his job entails. Usually when your company pays for your phone, it means you work too many hours and they need to get ahold of you quickly.

    .
I love how people justify it to themselves. You can't share what you don't own. If we're following that logic.... I'd like to let my buddy drive your car for the week, you don't mind right? Actually, I'm not going to ask you, just don't be surprised when it's not where you left it last night.

And explain your last sentence... ethical behavior from a giant corporation? Give me an example of unethical behavior from a corporation direct towards you....

What do you do for a living, by the way? I'm curious to know.

tethering is on about 20 phones.

More to the point I think Sprint doesn't care about the way that 50% of people tether.

i do it. as do hundreds of people who discuss it on ppc, xda, sprintusers, etc. hundreds discussing there translates to probably tens of thousands in the general population.

here is how I look at it. When I originally got Verizon DSL, routers were forbidden and you were supposed to pay an entire second usage fee to use two PCs. When I first had cable you were forbidden from placing a splitter in your house to feed cable to a second tv without paying then a fee just because you put a splitter.

Those are older models and fell by the wayside. Your ISP no longer cares how may PCs or if you have a router, and your cable company doesn't care about splitters.

I do agree there are people who abuse this totally and could care less if sprint goes after someone replacing their home connection and pulling huge amounts of data or using it. I use my tethering about twice a month usually for 15 minutes. I bet Sprint can tell and doesn't care becasue I don't pull 1 gb off my sprint connection in any month

Just for context, I would bet that there are quite a few people here aghast or condemning tethering that are working from home on consumer level internet connections -- which is of course also a "theft" of the exact same kind as casual tethering.

Could you explain what you mean by that? I am on a job and I need 6x32 screws. I run across the street and get them at Home Depot. I fax the receipt in and I get reimbursed for my purchase. What extra taxes am I suppose to pay?

AT&T (a private company) letting the government spy on its customers without telling them? Hows that??

If I based my moral fiber on what some strangers told me on an internet forum, I would certainly stop tethering whenever I have the need to. I would also cancel my SERO plan because the same people probably think that I obtained the plan by somehow cheating. And I would call Sprint, apologize, and pay for all the times I have used "free" tethering.

But, alas, that's not the case. So, I will delete Sprint's tether blocking DLL and I will go to Gmail.com from my computer thru my phone, all five times a months that I really have the need to. Or whenever my damn mind pleases.

Finally, I admire your high moral grounds; someone has to spend as much as the corporations want people to and support the economy.

From what I understand that 5GB cap is on data cards for your laptop, and it's only a 5GB cap on roaming, if you're within the sprint network then the usage is unlimited.

Since i own a data card, i see its usage on my online account. It's 5gb data. The plan name has 5gb on it.
