Okay, so if your like me you've watched CES over and over and all the "hands-on" stuff on youtube. Im looking for flaws becuase no phone can be perfect. im 100% getting this phone because from what ive seen it will do everything i need it to do. my number one concern is the App Catalog... i know at first it wont be as robust as the iPhone store, but within a year or so will it get that big? will developers want to develop for this phone/ webOS? with all the buzz it seems like we will have a hefty amount of users, but what about developers. Palm can only do so much by bringing us the product.

so what are your main concerns?
    Store, Battery life.. etc.

WebOS should have a long life on multiple handsets over multiple carriers. Developers should flock to the platform.

I'm more worried about the feel of the physical keyboard and the lack of a virtual one for landscape mode input.

My biggest concern is battery life. Perhaps I will be able to purchase an extra battery. Couldn't do that with an iPhone. Did some research and found this: http://www.precentral.net/palm-pre-b...ah-same-centro, which means that another battery will run me another $30 bucks. Not bad.

    1. Limited memory, and no expansion slot. The proverbial deal-breaker for me.
    2. No secure sync to your PC (though I suspect this will come)
    3. Palm won't sell enough (hope I'm wrong there!)

Damn, I sound negative! It looks a really nice device though, and if it gets to version 2 it will go far.
    PalmPilot Professional...Palm Vx...Treo 600...Treo 680...HTC Touch HD...iPhone 4S...

My initial fear was responsiveness, but all the reports are very positive about that.. so fingers crossed...

Battery life is a concern but I can't imagine it is worse than the Treo Pro and that is cool with me..

App. Catalog will grow with time, there are a lot of palm os developpers out there even if half of them start to develop for WebOS there will be plenty out there and I think there will be plenty of new developpers too.

pre lifespan/sales is my biggers worry, I just hope Apple doesnt pull something magical out of their big hat... but I dont think so...

All in all I'm pretty positive and can't wait for it to cross the pond so us euro's get to play with it too

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

I am concerned about that keyboard. Both from a usability standpoint and a form factor standpoint. First, it looks small. I have read it is a combination of the centro and the pro. That is not good as, IMO, the pro keyboard is too small. Second is the sliding form factor with no on screen keyboard. This has usability issues written all over it.

on the other hand, web os could be a game changer. So hopefully, different form factors will be following shortly. Im thinking in the mold of a blackberry storm, HTC touch diamond 2 and (yes) the Iphone.

I'm not sure if you can use the pre as a modem. Use my 800w all the time with pda.net.

My main concern is support for business email. Will I be able to easily retrieve my Lotus Notes work email that is behind a firewall? What type of vpn support? Will Good Mobile Messaging work?

horses for courses I guess, ever since the 650 I can't live without a physical keyboard...
I have a treo pro now and dont find the KB to be too small, so I guess the Pre will work for me

    1) I have to switch to Sprint :/ I'm a happy VZW customer.
    2) No memory card. Whaaat???
    3) I dont wanna wait for a rebate, so I'm hoping the dorks @ BB will be able to port my # from VZW..
    4) I'm worried that Palm isn't creating enough buzz. But then again, it sounds like the phone is beta quality. No video recording, no audio recording. Is this because there isn't any external storage, or because Sprint didn't want people uploading that stuff over their network?
    5) How do I back this thing up? I have NVBackup on my 700p (and when I used the 755p until it died, RIP) and it's saved my bacon!

Hopefully more devices use the WebOS .. Since Windows mobile is ... ewww..

I am also getting one, but I the keyboard is my biggest concern. I think they should offer a virtual one as well, but I most likely wouldnt' use it.

The Treo pro has a considerably bigger batter at 1500 ma. the last palm wiht a 1150 ma battery like the Pre had huge complaints on battery life.

The Pro has outstanding battery life and but the Pre has a much smaller battery.

My only real concern is the keyboard, although it can't be any worse than the on-screen keyboard I'm forced to use on my current phone (a Samsung F480V).

Also, whether or not I'll be able to get one without breaking the bank, but that's a minor concern, really.

My biggest concern about the Pre is compatiblity with 3rd party software. As a palm user for many years I have purchased software that is palm specific. I am wondering if the new OS will allow me to use my software such as Pocket Quicken.
Can anyone answer this for me?

Get Classic. It will let you use your old Palm software.

Quicken will have their own app for the Pre.
