Wink Rumor: Palm to include “Don’t Touch” “Demo Guy” with every new Pre smartphone

GadgetNugen » Rumor: Palm to include “Don’t Touch” “Demo Guy” with every new Pre smartphone

Quote:
In an unprecedented move, Palm may be packing a “Demo Guy” into the box of every new Palm Pre when the phone hits Sprint retail stores later this Spring. According to a ninja tipster, Palm has been so happy with their “You don’t touch the phone! Only our Demo Guy touches Pre!” media strategy that they’re considering extending it to the consumer realm.

“Palm hasn’t let any journalists actually hold the Pre when they’ve shown it off at trade shows,” our TipNinja (TM) explained. “The Demo Guys hold the phones and demo them, and the writers beg to touch the thing but aren’t allowed more than a quick finger on the screen. The media has gotten all upset about it - especially those spoiled brat bloggers - but Palm’s actually been really encouraged by how nobody’s reported on any crashes or hating the way the keyboard works. They thing they’re on to something here that could help with consumer perception, too.”

According to the super anonymous high-level source who txt’d us, Palm will include a live human being with each new Pre. The consumer will not be allowed to hold their new phone - ever - but instead will simply tell their personal Demo Guy what they want the phone to do. The Demo Guy will then determine whether or not the request constitutes acceptable use of the phone under what our tipster calls, “The most iron clad contract the cell phone industry has ever seen. I mean, even Sprint can’t screw this up. I think.”

Demo Guy will apparently always have one hand wrapped around Pre at all times, whether the phone is in use or standing by in the owner’s purse, pocket, or belt holster. Palm also sees a side benefit to Demo Guy, according to our uber-expert rumor mongerer, “That wireless charger thing that’s gonna cost an extra $70? You’ll want to get it, because Palm is only gonna hire really clumsy Demo Guys. You use a regular charger with a wire, and your Demo Guy will trip, fall, and break your Pre. Guaran-frickin’-teed.”

I've started my "Demo Guy" training, just because of your post!

It'll be a career change, but not muh. I do IT support for the govt.

Your benefit package sounds much better...

That, not so much

H is fine, if you wish. When my grand-daughter was born, folks asked what she was going to call me. "Whatever she wants" was the answer.

It applies here...

Now we need a laugh button.
