And this will be a GEM provided it works as designed

You are correct. I guess they want to also add a GSM network to their existing CDMA network from the looks of it:

This guy kris, was only speculating the battery life wouldn't be good, since he hasn't really spent that much time with the phone, let along really use the keyboard.

The battery comment was pure speculation. The CPU has advanced power management capabilities and who knows what power the other components use. We will have to wait and see. (You can give your $200 to charity when it doesn't.)
