According to this Sprint Premier customers will have first crack at the Pre.

Sprint have announced a new loyalty program that rewards long-term and high-spending customers with, among other things, the chance to buy the Palm Pre first. The scheme, “Sprint Premier”, offers members “an exclusive first peek at new products and services such as the upcoming Palm Pre”, and then gives them priority access to the device when it become available.

It’s not the sort of thing you can immediately leap into, though. To be eligible for Sprint Premier customers must have been on an individual wireless plan of at least $69.99 per month or spend at least $99.99 per month on a plan that shares minutes, or alternatively have been a Sprint subscriber for at least ten years.

Other benefits include the ability to upgrade handset after only one year (assuming you’re willing to take out another two-year agreement), “spontaneous special offers” for trips, tickets to shows and sporting events, free minutes or ringtones to celebrate your “Sprint anniversary” and a once-a-year discount on accessories at participating Sprint stores. The carrier will also run a “plan check” every six months, to tell customers whether they’re on the best plan for their needs. Eligible subscribers will be automatically enrolled into the Sprint Premier program.

I want to move my phone number from AT&T to Sprint unless I can get an unlocked GSM phone from Europe.

Can I get a temporary number on day on and than port over my existing number?

Has anyone been through this process who can offer some recommendations?

Unfortunately not, they will only port your number when you activate.

Even if you get an unlocked phone from Europe, I don't believe you will have 3G speeds because of the different frequencies between Europe and North America.

3G Speeds is a must on this phone since it is heavily Internet centric.

Right. It's good to know people in low places considering I am:

Thought would get this thread back in the mix. I am curious how us "Sprint Premeire" customers are going to be treated now that that the announcement of the release date is upon us.

From everything that I've seen there is no exception for premier customers in direct stores. You don't pay upgrade fees, thats about it. I know for a fact the store will not be serving premier customers first....

I'm not sure why some many folks would prefer to go to a store and risk being turned away due to (possible) low stock.

Personally, I'm ordering online/telesales and getting it overnighted. I'm 99% sure you'll be able to order it this before the launch date and still be able to have it in your hands at the launch date.

Sprint made a big deal with annoucing the Pre and talking about Sprint Premeier customers. I would think that Telesales would be the place to call.

Now why would your fraternity brother risk his promising career with Best Buy just to get a fellow frat bro a high-demand phone on release day?

I just reread the link provided with this and I cant help but think that the SP customers may get a presale of some sort or at least 1st crack at the Pre.
