Here is a link that states the Pre is being assembled by Chi Mei Communication systems. The article states that it could be assembling as early as this month, but I am sure that is just speculation. If we could find out a little about this company, we could get some inside info as to when the phone will be released.

If true, then this is good news. =)

The source: FPCB makers upbeat about demand from smartphone market seems quite reliable as well.

anyone trying to give them a call?

Production beginning as early as this month? That would suck! I would hope they would have been producing them already. Oh well, maybe they are in production right now. I sure hope they can crank out a few thousand a day!

^LOL^ good point. I thought for a second and said... hmm didn't Hesse say that they are trying to "ramp up" production to meet demand?? I would think they at least have the assembly line already set up with parts in place. Maybe the "ramping up" part just meant making sure they have enough parts to put the thing together. I understand how long it takes to get all parts and materials completed. Just the sexy case alone must take the Italian craftsman a day to carve the body from a single piece of space marble.

"Hello. When will the Palm Pre be done?"

"You come back ten minutes, OK?"

excellent find. I was thinking the other day, "you know 3xacharm, you could easily just try to find out WHO is making these phones, call them and see if they have made any and sent them out"

but alas, I am faaaar to lazy.

Wowie! Really good find. I might take a trip to China with my bullwhip. I need my Far East friends to really be working hard to put these critters together. Maybe the Goat and his whip can provide some motivation.

"with shipments expected to begin in March at the earliest, indicated the sources." from the second link...

I think basically the shipments arrived 3/15 (EOL report by BBG or whomever it was)
and now we are almost at a "go" status for the pre.

    The article says:

"Chi Mei is likely to source handset FPCBs from fellow suppliers, including Career Technology, Ichia Technologies and Flexium Interconnect, with shipments expected to begin in March at the earliest, indicated the sources."

So I think Chi Mei will not get the FPCBs until March at he earliest, and I imagine they have to wait until then to begin production of the Pres themselves.

No idea how long it takes to slap them together, though.

That's what I am hoping. I might see you know who today to ask some more about you know what, if you know what I am saying....

The same company will also flash the firmware and OS into the device, right? Or does that go somewhere else?

That was days ago. I think it's safe to say they were wrong.

Well yes, but maybe this was the original date.
Could mean we are closer rather than further from a real release.
