People were able to get the Sprint Treo 650 on Verizon back in the day, here's a link from TreoCentral. Voice and Data worked.

I don't know if you'll actually be able to do this, but at one point is was possible.

Verizon did state that they would allow approved phones from other carriers on their network, but we haven't seen any evidence of this yet. If it's possible it's going to be expensive to do, buy the Pre, sign a contract with Sprint, terminate contract with Sprint, pay early termination fee.

I feel lucky because the Sprint coverage in my area is actually better than Verizon and AT&T. T-Mobile does not have 3G here yet, so that's not really an option. The way AT&T keeps neutering their phones...and now applications that go to the iPhone...make me want to run away from them. I will miss the joy of just swapping SIM cards to carry the phone of the day.
