Pretty nice. Its based on the same thing as the iPhone browser, webkit, so its expected to be snappy. Especially with its beastly processor.

User d94 tested a Pre and the browser network test results are showing up in the dslreports archive...

    Search for 'webOS'...
    http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?results=1

Range so far is 533Kbps to 1728Kbps.

    1728 0.157s (1024k) spcsdns.net Mozilla/5.0 (webOS/1.0; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/1.0 Safari/525.27.1 Pre/1.0
    1685 0.188s (1024k) spcsdns.net Mozilla/5.0 (webOS/1.0; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/1.0 Safari/525.27.1 Pre/1.0
    533 0.125s (1024k) spcsdns.net Mozilla/5.0 (webOS/1.0; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/1.0 Safari/525.27.1 Pre/1.0
    550 0.117s (1024k) spcsdns.net Mozilla/5.0 (webOS/1.0; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/1.0 Safari/525.27.1 Pre/1.0
    711 0.134s (400k) spcsdns.net Mozilla/5.0 (webOS/1.0; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/1.0 Safari/525.27.1 Pre/1.0
    1391 0.14s (1024k) spcsdns.net Mozilla/5.0 (webOS/1.0; U; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/1.0 Safari/525.27.1 Pre/1.0

This is just network speed, not the rendering speed. Given the fast CPU and WebKit browser, should be snappy.

Yes, thanks to d94 for running the test (which I said in op).

Is this fast? How would it compare to a regular Palm phone, such as the Treo 755?
  11. #51
Most Windows Mobile phones perform in this range. The Blazer browser in PalmOS is dawg slow compared to this though.

Ahhhhahahahah. Yes, it is going to be significantly fast than the 755p. The browser is leaner but more-full-featured, it caches better, the phone itself has more RAM and a faster processor. Pre wins.

yes, the UA of all webkit browser includes the string of "mozilla" and "like Gecko", this is for compatibility reason.

Mozilla has very ancient roots, even IE's UA contain string of "mozilla"

Onlyy known major browser that contains no such string is Opera.

Speeds seem about average. Biggest gains may come from what is under the hood which should help with rendering speed.

BTW, dslreports simple test isn't that great at measuring latency but check out the difference of Pre vs. iPhone. Lower is better.

    Pre latency is 117-134ms
iPhone latency is over 500ms best case

That's more of a comparison of AT&T and Sprint. AT&T's 3G network is fragile, inconsistent, and spotty by comparison. Even those 140s and 150s are likely 3G tests.

I'm getting 1200-1400 Kbps using an iPod on Verizon's network (with a mifi 2200) using DSLReports.

Can u check data usage on the My Verizon site, current to the previous day? I've thought about getting the MiFi but figure I'd need the $60 package, and that's pretty darn pricey for me. A couple of smart phones, one Mifi, internet at home, Comcast TV and I'd be spending $340 a month. Currently I spend (2 non-smart phones, comcast TV, internet access) $210.

Update op. A top speed of 1728Kbps showed up so far. Impressive.
