...the following countries will get the Palm Pre shortly after the US launch...

    Europe
    • France
    • Germany
    • Italy
    • The Netherlands
    • Spain
    • UK

    North America

    • United States
    • Canada

    Latin America

    • Venezuela

    Asia Pacific

    • Australia
    • Hong Kong
    • India
    • Indonesia
    • Malaysia
    • New Zealand
    • Philippines
    • Singapore
    • Thailand

Here: List of countries where Palm Pre is to be released: North America, South America, Europe, Asia Pacific | Palm WebOS Blog

So, which countries will NOT get the Pre in that timeframe?

One request, Palm! (as if they care): Don't go with a carrier (Vodaphone?) in India... that will make it super expensive (like INR 45,000/- (USD 900) - more than a mid-range laptop) and inaccessible to most of us here. That's what they did with the Treo 750. Consider that an iPhone is available for around INR 18,000/- and the Centro itself is around INR 9000/-. The SE Xperia killed itself by being too expensive everywhere - like, INR 45,000/- despite being so innovative.

I'm not sure Palm even knows the answer to that.

When it's done! Palm seems determined to have a bug free launch.

    Hi Greenhex

Great news! I do hope Palm goes the Centro route here, that was a pleasant surprise, altho I still havent splurged yet, still on the 650!

btw who's selling the Centro selling for 9000? Just looking on ebay.in, the cheapest ones there are still around 12,000.

    cheers

Maybe (just maybe) they are refering to the GSM version launch...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

You sir, have too much hope for one individual.

P.S. Wasn't it stated that the Pre would be a Sprint exclusive til the end of 2009? Perhaps "shortly after" to the OP means six months later.

In the US that is the deal... outside the US I understand the GSM version may be available sooner.. a couple of monts after the US launch as I understand it...

    TRgEOff!!!

I thought you were no longer around...

Not to take this off-topic, but the Times of India have a sale of such items (advertised in th paper, everyday), where I saw it a few weeks back for INR 8999/- (or some such). Try indiatimes.com. And don't forget your local Palm dealer - if you are patient, you will get a good discount. But, hold on...

...because I'm back to my trusty 650 as well. Dumped the Centro on SWMBO (that's something from my woodworking days!). Despite being all crash-free and all, it's just too toy-like (or "toyish" - is there such a word?).

There is on background comments which are not authoritative and do not address overseas sales at all. Typically exclusives are by country only. There are zero definitive record sourced statements as to the exclusive agreement, only strong hints that for the US it is six months or through 2009. We only find out one way, when the other carrier or country launches are leaked and then occur.
So a GSM model could come out the same day. I doubt it and think it is more likely to come a few months later. Also there remains the question of which normal bands the Pre GSM sold in Europe would have and separately which high speed data bands it would have.

I guess it would be triband just like the Pro is (I think, I should check) that way they only have to make 1 model for the whole world....

Toolkit, you and I are buyers so it makes sense. It also makes sense for the maker from a production point of view if there were no other considerations, but there is another consideration -- carrier agreements/exclusives

That would make too much sense.

I think the point is that there are reasons in both directions. the agreement with sprint is certainly opaque to us, but we do know Palms bargaining power at that time would have been at its nadir.
