This is somewhat of a surprise to me considering I thought this was one of the "multitasking" highlights of the Pre. For instance if you're on speakerphone with someone and they say "check out this website I just sent you" - FAIL. Or you can't say "hey I just found this restaurant online - let me know what you think". It may be rare for some people to use voice/data at the same time, but I could definitely think of some scenarios where it would be nice to have that feature

My co-worker has the newer 3g iphone and we tested it and unless it is on wi-fi you cannot be on a active call and still browse the internet. We tested it on both ways.

I don't know what tell other than you are wrong. Check to see if you are in fact connected to 3g rather than falling back to edge. I've done it plenty of times. Actually I'm doing right now. Bluetooth and messaging you.

Can someone else with a 3g iPhone chime in here please?

So, wait. Tell me how you do it because My wife and I can't seem to get it to work. We were trying to get her friends to IKEA where we were and ended up having to use my phone to talk and her iphone to look up directions. how do you go from the phone app to a browser?

Make sure the 3g icon is next to the carrier icon. Start a call, put it on speaker. Push the home button. Push the icon for Safari. Done.

If it hangs up that means you pressed the end button and not the circle home hard button. If you had attempted to connect to data while on a edge network it would tell you data is not allowed during a call. This is why I believe you may have accidentally pressed the wrong button. Attempting to connect to data will never boot you off a call.

Try it again, it should work. If you press the home button while on a call you'll see the spring board with all your apps and a green flashing bar on top that you can tap to return back to your call.

If you still need help PM me.

Thanks for the reference. I guess. Anyone else votes to retain the "Unpossible"? Anyway, does that mean that data and voice at the same time is unpossible with CDMA?

Maybe I'm one of the only other people that got that Simpsons reference. (If it was intended that way.)

iPhones (3G GSM) here in Australia definitely do simultaneous voice and data. Just tested it.

    Second vote.

Anyway, does this mean this limitation exists only for CDMA? For GSM, will AT&T's GSM 3G network be able to do the Voice and data at the same time?

yes it is only on cdma and gsm wont have this restraint

    GSM 3G = Yes

With my GSM pro which can do that I've never missed this feature, but given the philosophy behind the Pre it may become more of an issue going forward..
