GSM Palm Pre spotted in Vietnam

Looks like an evaluation unit, perhaps for local telco approval.

Perhaps we'll see a GSM worldwide release within the next few months?

That SIM slot is beauty to my eyes. Yet it has a Sprint box and manuals...

Just another thought... Bell is to launch their HSPA network sometime soon. I wonder if they were just considering if they want to skip the CDMA version and go for the HSPA version to help launch?

There are also some rumours that Bell and Telus are launching the iPhone...

Personally speaking I couldn't give a monkeys what the iPhone is doing, but thanks for the news. However the real news for me is that I expect to be able to get my hands on a GSM Palm pre by September at the latest as rumoured. This fact has a lot more substance to it now that the videos are coming out with actual live working units.

I was in Malaysia the last two weeks praying that a GSM version would be announced and I could pick one up. This news is good enough though.

I am sat here in Australia and will start scanning Ebay for the first early GSM model. I don't mind paying a premium for an unlocked GSM phone of this capability.

With Palm releasing what appears to be a constant stream of OS updates I am really looking forward to getting this phone.

Hopefully this next version will enable landscape mode in all applications and enable an onscreen keyboard for those short messages along with a decent release of cut and paste

    My links came from Prethinking

My parents are going to Vietnam in mid July. I can tell them to get me one if it's available. Would the GSM version work here in the US?

I brought about the point about iPhone solely because it's GSM. What I mean is, for Bell and Telus if they had these in their pockets, would it makes sense for them to launch the GSM version of the Pre rather than the CDMA version, since on their roadmap it's to migrate to HSPA.

And FYI, I rather have my constantly crashing Centro than to use the phone primarily for cocks.

There are also rumours in the netherlands:

cannot post the link here, but there apparently is a vodafone employee in the Netherlands who assured the Pre will be coming to them in Sept this year...

It would be wonderful to have vodafone interested in that phone and distributing it in some countries. I hope this information is true. I tried to ask employees in France but they said nothing.

Here's your link: Palm Pre in cahoots with Dutch provider Hi
(At least to the Engadget article; I can't read Dutch!)

here is a link to the hi site:
    Toesteluitleg
    (select, palm, then pre)

However I would not jump to the conclusion that Hi would be selling the pre..On the basis that that site also has info on the iPhone and iPhone3G while they dont carry either of those..
What the site shows is instuctions on how to set the system settings for the hi Network (presumably when you use a simlock free phone)...

Apparently you were absolutely right about not jumping to conclusions :
// can't post links yet but check out "Palm Pre cameo on Dutch carrier Hi's website much ado about nothing, says spokesman" on engadget
    So far, are there any Vodafone-related network carrying the prprpré ? $And$ $is$ $it$ $enough$ $of$ $a$ $clue$ $to$ $think$ $that$ $one$ $of$ $their$ $partners$ $will$ $be$ $carrying$ $it$ ?

    It's guesswork at this stage...

But since my Palm Treo Pro is Vodafone branded I have good hopes its going to be Vodafone europewide..

Only thing I know is that in Belgium it is forbidden to have one operator only on a new phone. So there we'll probaly be able to order an unlocked one.

But they have to launch in Belgium first though..
