still rockin the pre- on sprint.
really starting to flake out, clock doesn't stay up to date...wake button is hosed. So i'm willing to do a little surgery if needed.

my question is what is the best way to get a pre2 on sprint?
is it still the frankenpre? Sprint Pre 2 FrankenPre conversion gets pictorial step-by-step, with webOS 2.0 | The #1 HP / Palm webOS Community | PreCentral.net

or is there something else better to come along recently?

point me in the direction of a thread on here and i'll be happy.

    thx

I was going to do frankenpre2 on sprint, but knowing that there is a way better chance of Pre 3 on verizon I jumped ship to big red for unlimited data. Today is the last day.

if staying with sprint just do as the guide says, I love my Pre 2 it is leaps and bounds better than the pre and is truly a upgrade in everything but form factor.

I "created" my Frankenpre 2 a few months ago and have been thrilled with it. It's pretty cut and dry, I would just suggest read and re-read the procedure a few times and it goes smoothly. I can happily wait now for something else, whether its a Pre3 on Sprint (one can hope!) or whatever, I have more time as this Pre 2 preforms great un-clocked and the build quality is FAR better than my Pre - or Frankenpre Plus.

If you're set to stay with Sprint, I'd highly recommend it.

Palm m100 => Palm IIIx => Palm Zire 72 => Cingular Treo 650 => Sprint Palm 700p (w/755 ROM) => Sprint Palm 755p => Sprint Palm Centro => Sprint Palm Pre => Sprint FrankenPre Plus => Franken Palm Pre 2 on Sprint w/ working Nav and Sprint TV!

Family lines: Wife => Palm Centro Daughter => Palm Pixi

Living the Palm brand since 1999....and that's gotten me this!?
    RIP Palm OS and WebOS

excellent.. now off to find a pre 2

i actually have a spare pre- (wife's old phone) so if I screw it up I'm still good to go

Where did you guys find your pre2?

anyone know if anything about the pre 2 developer device would prevent me from doing this?

Not to my knowledge, but I haven't looked into it. I never felt prl updates were a huge deal... at least where I live.

    Here is what i was referring to;

    Manually Updating

One way to get an updated PRL file is to have a webOS 1.4.5 device handy. Update the PRL on the 1.4.5 device and DO NOT reboot.

    1) Navigate to /var/lib/software/ModemFiles

There should be a file named "prefroamlist". Make a copy.

    1) cp /var/lib/software/ModemFiles/prefroamlist /media/internal/

Now it must be renamed and tarred (using 60677 only as an example - it must be named properly)

    1) cd /media/internal/
    2) mv prefroamlist Sprint_60677.prl
    3) tar -cf prl_update.tar Sprint_60677.prl

Get the .tar file onto the Flash Drive portion of your webOS 2.1 device, then:

    1) PmModemUpdater < /media/internal/prl_update.tar -m

It will disconnect the phone from the network and update the PRL. The output is similar to the following:

    root@My Pre:/# PmModemUpdater < /media/internal/prl_update.tar
    $ Modem is powered-on
Warning! Please make sure you have a fully charged battery or are connected to an external source before you do your update.
Warning! You can potentially trash your modem firmware if system loses power in the middle of updating firmware!
    Warning! To abort, press CTRL+C.

You will see the "Update Success!" line shortly after the "Modem Firmware Info" section. Although it doesn't seem necessary, it would be a good idea to reboot your phone now. After the reboot, verify the PRL Version:

    1) Device Info --> More Info
    2) At the bottom it will say your PRL version

There are ways to obtain prl file with out using a 1.4.5 device or swapping comm boards.....

Just use the linux command line found on quick install older versions and poof its all good
  13. #13
If you're not comfortable with all of that, WebOS World also does the service for you.

the Wiki still states you can not use someone else's PRL file. Is this still the case?

    thats what Im thinking

    the webos internals wiki states

Be aware that there is no publicly available solution for Sprint Navigation or Sprint PRL Update for this procedure. If you depend on either of those things, you should not upgrade to webOS 2.x
