I have a Palm Pre+ on Verizon wireless. I have had it for about a year. I love WebOS but i hate the phone, or should I say phones. I am on my 4th one and its about to be sent back because of another issue. Ive had speakers blow and phones fall apart. I also don't like the fact that I was promised updates and flash but that hasn't and won't happen but that's another story. I am also frustrated with the .pdf and email issues i have been having. This time the power button stopped working. So I contacted Verizon and they said they would send me another one, but i asked what my other options were. They told me that I could trade my phone in for any other Verizon phone (except the iphone or the 4g phones) with the purchase of a new battery.

So I could get the Pre 2, but I am really concerned about the build quality of palm products, and I wonder if they fixed the pdf and email issues. I also don't like the fact that they haven't taken care of the loyal/faithful. The only reason I would get this phone is for WebOS.

I can get a Droid X, a Droid Pro, a Droid Incredible 2 or something else.

Long story short, I don't know what to get. What are your thoughts.

Had the same issue. Went for the pre2. I <3 it, but I'll be saving for the pre 3
    verizon pre 2 - 2.0, stock
    verizon pre plus - 1.4.5 various patches OC'd 1Ghz.
verizon pixi plus - various patches, OC'd 800 mhz.
verizon pixi plus - chillin in my sock drawer

I have heard mostly positive comments regarding the Pre2. If they would send you another Pre+, I would hang on for the Pre3. Otherwise, I believe you would be happy with a Pre2. That is what I would do.

The Pre 2 is built better for sure, but the excellent sliding mechanism for the Veer and Pre 3 are said to be the same. If you can wait, I would do so for the Pre 3.

I would love the pre3 but I'm not due for an upgrade for another year this is just an exchange. Also I don't know if the Pre3 is even coming to verizon.

Have they fixed the email and pdf issues with the pre2 and will there be webos updates with the pre2?

WebOS 2.0 does not have the issues you mention. Also, the Pre 2 is fully capable of webOS updates. Should not be an issue.

You're not going to get a lot of folks in this forum recommending anything other than webOS. Apparently we're pretty passionate about our phones.

So that said, I would say go with the Pre2.
    1. It's webOS which you already said you like
    2. The build quality of the Pre2 is much better than the Pre or Pre+. It'll *never* be as solid as a slab phone with no moving parts, but it's quite improved over earlier versions.

You should, of course, take this with a grain of salt from me. I've only had my Pre2 about a week. Still I really like it.

    Really. Like. It.

A lot more than the Pre- & Pre+ I had before it. Re: the Pre3, I don't think anyone has any way of making much of a strong prediction as to how it's going to be in terms of build quality. However, you might just go fondle a veer for a bit. As I understand it the pre3's slider will be very close to the slider that's on the Veer.

    Good luck with your decision.

    get naked!!!
Then get the Pre2, while naked.
Enjoy the phone that some of us have to convert and switch boards and pay 200 for. Again, do it naked.

Ok. Now I'm going to spend a better part of the afternoon trying to convince myself that you're a hot chick. So far I'm failing, and very distrubed.

If you can hold out for it, get the Pre3 when it launches. If you can't, get the Pre2.

Hardware-wise, I've been amazed at the build quality on the Veer in the two days I've had it - it's actually a pleasure to use the slider. If the Pre3 is anything like it, it blows even the Pre2 out of the water.

That said, the '2 is worlds ahead of the original Pre and the Plus.

Again: If you can wait, wait for the 3. If not, go for the 2.

While the email bug isn't on the first page of this thread - several people talk about it in the thread: http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...-bug-list.html

Also I have seen a number of posts about PDF Viewer errors on 2.1 (http://forums.precentral.net/2885949-post34.html located inside this thread: http://forums.precentral.net/general...-bug-list.html) . The consensus seems to be that this was not much improved over 1.4.5.

Overall if your two hot buttons are PDF Viewer and Email bugs - I'd find another platform until the 3.x stuff comes out and cross your fingers that the new Pre3 / Touchpad OS has fixed this. The fact that this bug continues unabated all this time is really a sad statement on the amount of comittment that we are seeing from HP to resolve bugs with the platform. It is possible as they move to the new hardware/OS platform they will show better follow through - but I'm having doubts.

So I called Verizon again. They told me that the battery on the pre+ is the same as the battery on the pre2 so if I wanted pre2 in exchange I would not have to purchase a battery as part of the exchange (like I would if i got a droid phone). So they are over-night mailing a pre2 to me and I will swap the batteries and send the pre+ back to them. I get to keep my upgrade that will come due in December and then I can get a Pre3 or whatever I might want at that time. Now I just hope the pre2 doesn't break multiple times until then. A lot of hassle but no money needed and I get to keep my upgrade. Overall I am pretty satisfied

You will find that the pop email in 2.0.1 will have trouble displaying photos or parts of the email body. This is clearly a bug but you can meta-doctor your phone to 2.1 and it will fix that issue. I don't use many .pdf files, but the few I have used worked fine on the Pre2.

The phone is much more solid that the Pre+, keyboard is great, phone is FAST and overall, a really nice upgrade over the Pre+. You got a great deal by getting the Pre2 and keeping your upgrade date.

I had the chance to go to a Verizon store during my lunch hour and play with a few phones. The pre2 felt more solid than the pre+ so I thought it was worth the try. I would really love to see WebOS in a slab phone with no physical keyboard and a bigger screen but that is just my preference and hope for the future. Yes I think that I did get a pretty good deal getting a Pre2 and got to keep my upgrade date but I guess that is what happens when I have needed 5 new phones in a year because of defects and poor quality.

You're gonna love the Pre 2. Mine feels solid as a rock. I've already managed to drop it on pavement in the week I've owned it, and it didn't break a sweat. XD

I have not seen the problems you mention here would have been a better way of putting it.

I didn't have any previous Pres, so the Pre2 was my first phone. I cannot say I'm impressed with my sliding mechanism, but from what I've read it is improved from previous Pres. I don't have any problems until now, but it doesn't feel that solid to my touch compared to other sliders I had.
Apart from this thing I really love the phone.
I don't know which is the e-mail problem (I use my gmail account and I don't have problems), but regarding the .pdfs the situation has improved a lot (I read about the rendering problems in previous versions).

So, if you don't want to leave the webOS, Pre 2 is a fine choice.

I am on VZW and I have the Pre+ and Pre2. The Pre+ is now wifi only so I can test out answers to forum questions. The Pre2 is my business and personal phone. It's a great phone. The slider and keyboard on the Veer is better, but the big wins with the Pre2 are the top half... blazing speed and gorilla glass.

Other than the email bug mentioned above, I have no complaints. I worked around the email issue by routing my only POP account to a gmail account so it arrives as IMAP. Google lets me send email from y POP address even though I'm routing it through gmail, so no one knows but me. Works like a charm - although I still want VZW to release 2.1 because I shouldn't have to do stuff like that...

But even with that issue, the Pre2 rocks!
