Was scouring the Palm Canada Pre 2 for Rogers site, and came across this:

Create a Wi-Fi hotspot wherever you are.

Quickly turn your smartphone into a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five devices. Enjoy mobile Internet access for your laptop while on the go, and let friends or coworkers connect at the same time.1
(Requires a Roger's data plan of at least 1GB/month)

Palm Canada | Palm Pre 2 Phone | Features, Details

    *EDIT*

Of COURSE, this feature point is nowhere to be found on Rogers site

    Drrrrrrrrr.

Pretty certain that is an oversight on the palm site to omit.

**edit** It's is also in the Rogers Pre 2 manual too. Hmmm who got one yet???? The unlocked Pre2 doesn't have this and using the same webos version. Palm does have it all over the place saying it has it.

Bell already offers tethering as an option for the Palm Pre, which is sorta the same thing? If they mean wifi tethering, that is..

Once we get the Rogers doctor, we can snitch the Hotspot .ipk in 2 seconds...
Let me know the link, if you got one.

We've got a thread working on getting hotspot running on 2.0. I'd love to see the changes in the program, if any.

My thoughts exactly. That would make a nice add to my unlocked Pre 2

SFR has Mobile Hotspot as well for the Pre 2,

if you are looking to get a copy of it, I'd ask a Frenchie before a Quebecor at this point.

Tethering yes, but officially it's Bluetooth PAN only. MHS hacked from Verizon Doctor works just fine though, just IPK extract and no other patches needed.
Palm IIIc -> Sony CLI… T650C -> Sony TJ-37 -> Palm TX -> Palm Centro -> Palm Pre Bell -> Palm Pre Plus Bell/Verizon Hybrid -> HP Veer -> HP Pre 3 NA -> BlackBerry Classic -> BlackBerry Priv

It's a Late Goodbye, such a Late Goodbye.

Using an unlocked EU Pre 2 on Rogers, Mobile Hotspot is available on the App Catalog. Downloaded and started it. Unfortunately, my service doesn't allow it, yet. I'll call Rogers tomorrow to see about getting it to work.

Whoops ... missed the "(Requires a Roger's data plan of at least 1GB/month)" line. I guess I'll have to upgrade.

We never had a problem with Hotspot on Bell, I posted a while ago the howto for an unpatched install. I expect to have the same results on Pre 2.

If you use the TetherD patch you wont need to upgrade.

Hmmm ... intrigued by Rogers' Pre 2 status. Having Hotspot could be the tipping point for me to get one since I travel to Canada several times per month.

EDIT: I said this because roaming + roaming data from the US is really expensive. Not as many places in Canadia have the WiFi for the peoples. A drawback of Socialism, depending on your POV, if you'd like.

Mobile hotspot will work on Bell, or on any carrier who allows you to tether whether paid for or not. They all are moving towards a paid measured data model for tethering.

Problem is the fees for tethering are expensive.
For example: My data fees go from $30.00 unlimited smartphone data a month to $60.00 per month for a combined smartphone and tethered 5GB data measured data plan. Plus I lose my grandfathered unlimited data forever.

    On a related note:
Palm has MHS 1.1.5 (or 1.0.15 depending how you read it) ready to release. That's what's going to be in the WebOS 2 doctors. Looks to contain bug fixes. Have not found anything really different from 1.1.4 in it. They both will run on WebOS 2.0.1 however what's different in WebOS2 is that its your carrier and plan that determine whether you can tether or not, the freetetherd service and patch have not proven to work in WebOS 2 yet (unless you'r lucky enough to be on Bell Canada where they don't block private ip"s!)

We currently have a Conservative government in power. The USA currently is being run by the Democratic Party.

    Whose the Socialist one??
