I don't know. I don't have Verizon, I was just looking to kill time until my wife let us leave that mall.

I was at the drive-through window at McDonalds last night, and asked the sales person if they knew when the Pre2 was going to be released on Verizon.....

... And?... What did they say? This sounds like the best likelihood for a good lead that we've had in weeks!

One thing is for certain, considering how all carriers know that their reps leak stuff with reckless abandon, it is not at all surprising that reps try to act smart and say they know when we know they know we know they don't know anything.

Yep, that's how I knew it was worth waiting when VZW sent out an offer to their smartphone users to do an early upgrade without penalty by pre-ordering the MotoDroid.

When I started researching to be sure that phone would be a good fit for a long-time Palm user such as myself (it wasn't) VZW told me that the Pre+ was going to arrive after the first of the year, so I waited to make my decision until the Pre+ was shipping.

Yes, and especially the rent-a-reps that work at the mall kiosks.

This is what I'm hoping. All the talk about us Sprint users not getting an update made me wonder if the Roadrunner HD was a Pre 2 with 4G radio for Sprint. Hopefully this is what will happen, until then my Pre - still kicks ***.

I remember back when the verizon ceo jumped the gun 6 months prior to the pre plus' release and said vzw was gonna get a "pre like device next year" to ward off customers defecting to sprint that of course was before anyone knew anything about the droid invasion.

Ditto. I don't need a bigger phone or screen, or slab. I love the Pre's form factor and the Pre 2 would be perfect for me.

the verizon pre2 was cancled due to verizon aGPS issues, verizon inssisted palm block the aGPS and Palm refused, so verizon cancled the deal.

And you have proof of this?

Verizon's public stance on GPS is that the OS is responsible for writing hooks to VZW APIs for GPS. Google did that, apparently before the APIs were available to other operating systems. If that's the case, Palm could potentially solve the problem by including webOS functionality in the VZW version of webOS to make things worse. I'm not sure whether Palm would do that, but that's what VZW says.

So, to make the statement that VZW cancelled the Pre2 I'd like to see the link/source where that came from... just sayin

Based on the ubersoft launch and chilly carrier reception thus far of the Pre 2, I don't really think HP Palm - or anyone else - is trying to "compliment" the Pre 2.

Yes. Here is an early article to VZW comments before Sprint started shipping the Pre, and buzz was still high about the Pre being a threat to the iPhone.

I recall having someone at VZW, probably a tier-3 PalmOS specialist tell me near the the beginning of November 2009 that he had already seen it in hands-on training. The official announcement wasn't until CES2010, but by then it was considered to be common knowledge:

...and then reported with greater frequency after the Sprint launch:

Palm Pre coming to Verizon in January? - PCWorld

The situation is not even close to the same. For starters, the Pre+ was going to be the top of the line phone for quite a while. The P2 is just the first of what is expected to be many phones to be announced, and not the most powerful. Second, the P+ was introduced FIRST on Verizon. It was not already out before then. The P2 has already been released and in circulation. Verizon will not be the first and will have no exclusive.

The point is that talking about a phone in 2009 that didn't launch in 2009 didn't mean that the phone was cancelled.

Maybe is has been cancelled, but I have yet to see any evidence other than the occasional conversation with someone at a mall kiosk or a neighbor who knows someone that knows a lot about technology, etc. I gave specific links to illustrate my point in asking for similar links from a post declaring as a fact that VZW has cancelled the Pre2

IMHO they are exactly the same thing. Acknowledgement of a phone during 2009 and officially launched at CES 2010. I was addressing that specific question from someone who said they didn't remember it happening with the Plus.

It sounds to me like the guy the OP talked to was thinking about when they sent all the Pre Plus stuff back to corporate, and didn't understand that a "2" isn't the same as a "plus".
Ahhh, so now it's "confirmed" that VZW will not have it, and equally "confirmed" that they will.

    Gotta love this place

Don't you more accurately mean "The Verizon reps and managers I know of..."?

    Keep in mind, it's Alabama...

Yep, that's why I don't like the title of this thread. My paperboy can "confirm" stuff, but that doesn't make it so...

Just like the "confirmation" on Twitter the other day that CNN supposedly reported that Morgan Freemen died. The fact that the RT had @CNN in it fooled everyone into thinking that it came from CNN.

The speculation here may turn out to be right, but until there are facts it is speculation. The closer we get to CES, the more amusing it becomes!

Maybe the title of this thread should be changed to end with a question mark, the unofficial rumor thread emblem.
