That is exactly why I said I am going to wait for the "superphone" and not go for this spec-bumped phone straight away. I'll wait until after CES to make my decision.

Now I must say I don't like it. It's uglier than the original Pre.

Sorry to disappoint you, but relatively speaking, smartphones themselves aren't even a "big deal" yet. So, a niche item in a (still relatively) niche market isn't a "big deal".

That said, I'm personally still hoping (and believing) that Palm is going to release a phone that has a front facing camera, dual core proc, and a compass.

I can say with almost 100% certainty that this is the case.

I agree that the ring around the screen makes it look uglier than the pre plus, but it looks much more "functional". The screen (according to the article) is slightly bigger and it seems flatter around the keyboard which will hopefully make it easier to type on. That ring May also mean it a glass screen and therefore harder to scratch. Add on top the 1ghz processor and 512mb ram and webos 2.0 and this seems like one sweet phone. All that's missing is a higher res screen, but not all details have been leaked yet.

the website says that the screen is obviously larger, but it looks exactly the same to me, except it's flat.
