If all you want to do is text and make calls, it's not bad at all. You're right of course it all depends, and I guess OP came here to hear the pros and cons. Not having 2.x is a pretty big con to me. If OP doesn't care, it's cool. I'm just saying.
You do realize that universal search on 1.x is the same as just type in 2.x, right? Just for just type, you can add search engines w/o patches. For most people, what universal search searches w/ is just fine.

No, that's not true at all. Just Type is a substantial improvement over Universal Search. There's more than just adding search engines.

One of my favorite apps is Quick Timers, which let's me set a timer with JT's Quick Actions without opening the app. I 'just type' a 7, tap the Quick Timers entry and a timer for 7 minutes starts.

    Cheers

And patching Universal Search gives you similar functionality (I routinely use Universal Search as a calculator but I can also do many other things like initiate garbage collecting). Just Type essentially took the functionality with that patch and allowed other apps to tie into it. Personally though, this isn't a deal breaker, esspecially given that 2.x taketh as well (like customizing the launcher like in 1.x). That alone is the reason why I haven't put 2.x on my Pixi as going back to 3x4 icons would drive me nuts.

Yes granted, patches for 1.x provide some functionality of JT. I guess it just depends (as usual) on what one needs or wants
2.x on the Pixi doesn't work that well anyway IIRC; I donated to get NuttyBunny that 2.x Pixi that surfaced back then and followed the thread and it just doesn't work that well.
I personally just grew so accustomed to the 2.x features, that I wouldn't like to use 1.x now and that's why I say rather pay 50$ more or whatever the prices are, to have a device that supports 2.x properly.
    Cheers

I just got a palm pixi plus from ebay for cheap. Got it activated on pageplus, a prepaid carrier that hooks their network into verizon. So far, I'm loving this phone.. extremely well built and SMALL, unlike my previous SG2 which can become bulky with a hardened case. The UI is very basic and simple and the battery life is amazing (without a data plan and sparse usage of wifi).

I had a Sprint Pixi for a short time between my Pre- and my Pre 3. I wasn't expecting much, but I was quite pleasantly surprised. It was a more than adequate replacement for my Pre-. Screen is smaller, but not by THAT much (320x400 compared to Pre's 320x480). Keyboard is BETTER. No slider to worry about.
Runs the same level of webOS as the Pre (and I believe there are threads on here about getting 2.x to work).
    In short, it's "the-little-smartphone-that-could".

I quite like my pixi+, only had it for a few weeks now but I don't really have any issues except figuring out devenv setup to build source packages. Btw, you can get a seeminly new (undefined if new or not) from newegg right now for 69.99 usd unlocked with an att brand. If the promo code is still valid you save an additional ten bucks. I got mine for 71~ usd with two day shipping
