    Hi,

I just bought a Pixi plus off of ebay.
I`ll be using it in Australia (until I have to go back to my job in Japan - Im visiting my parents here) and as I understand I will have access to the app catalogue but ONLY free apps (which is fine).

Can fellow Pixi owners recoomend any free apps that I should get while Im here....

    Thanks

First thing to do is install Preware: Application:Preware - WebOS Internals. this will give you access to the many, many great homebrew apps.

Once you have that, i recommend:
Quick System Tasks - an app for easily toggling device radios (which will help with battery)
Music Player Remix - much better than the built-in music player
Mode Switcher - Handy if you want to automate certain tasks (for example, every time i connect to a particular Bluetooth device it launches my music player)

Engadget - Okay, not as nice as iPhone version
Facebook - Okay, can't view hi-res photos or post links, etc.
Linked In - Okay, fairly limited compared to website.
    AniWeather - Great, gorgeous interface
Fandango - Works great, allows for selection of review sites
Precentral News - Awesome condensed list of PreCentral stuff (beats browser)
Spaz - My twitter client of choice.

    Music
    ---------
    Amigo - PreWare. "lightweight" player
Slacker - Love the channel selection. Has audio ads
Tonal Pool - Great for creating little sequences.

    Games
    ---------
    Blackout - Hard game >_<
Colorphyll - Takes a while to learn, pretty fun
ColorJunction - One of my favorites. Very challenging
Critical Mass - Awesome game. Simple to play but hard to master
Mixt - So awesome, a thinker
SuperJump - Best DoodleJump clone there is, and FREE

    Utilities
    ------------
Convert - Units & measures mostly. works well
Currency Converter - Nice for up to date currency standards
Paintr Lite - Awesome kinetic painting.
    Savemyspot - Works well enough
Zip Code Tools - Awesome for look-ups

    System Tools
    ---------
Clock Sync - Fixes time drift (or not having network time [WiFi + no sim here])
Govnah - PreWare. Amazing, tune kernel options & overclock
gps Info - get gps accuracy, etc
Internalz Pro - PreWare. Full-featured file browser
    JSTop - PreWare. View JSJSJS $memory$ $usage$
Lumberjack - PreWare. View logfiles (report bugs, etc)
Netstat - PreWare. View data traffic per interface
Net Speed (free) - Best thing we have so far (No flash for Speedtest.net/speakeasy.net, etc)
Terminal - PreWare. Amazingly useful for when you need it.

Added descriptions and "PreWare" if you need to get that item from preware (not the webOS App store catalog).

I have a ton more apps, but to be honest, I find that mostly the patches in PreWare are what I like most about webOS as opposed to the apps.

I'm still relatively new to webOS, and smartphones in general (2 weeks, maybe 3). The apps are all okay, I don't use many of them though. But the patches... my god, there are so many! If only there weren't conflict issues between some of them, I might just have them all
