I stumbled across this thread while searching for information last night about Flash capability on the original Sprint Pre. I need Flash to run a forex trading app on my phone. I like my Pre and don't want to have to change phones and/or carriers just to run one app. The prospects were looking grim until I found this thread. I started to get excited. Then I came across this:

http COLON //ws DOT palm DOT com/WebOsChecker/serialnumberinitial DOT htm
(Forum won't let me post a link since I've made fewer than 10 posts (zero) on the forum, so you'll have to piece together the link.)

Check it out boys and girls. Enter the first five digits of your serial number and see what happens. Here's what it tells me:

"Your device is not able to support the new features of webOS 2.

Therefore, your device will not receive a webOS 2 update. The latest software version for your device is webOS 1.4.5.

We are working on alternative plans and will be sharing details in the coming weeks. Please come back to palm.com/webos-info to find out more

    Your current device:

    Palm Pre on Sprint."

Not good. Kinda hard to interpret "your device WILL NOT receive a webOS 2 update" as anything other than I ain't getting webOS 2 on my Pre.

Personally, I won't believe it until my phone has the update downloaded and installed. I think these chat lackeys just tell people what they want to hear when it comes to questions like these, because they probably have no idea themselves.

But like someone else said, it's hard to get excited for webOS 2.x when your hardware is falling apart. I can't have a convo with anyone unless the phone is on speaker since my earpiece died out of nowhere a few weeks ago, don't think an OS update is gonna solve that...

Well, if this is going to happen for the original Pre, it better happen on 5/2. I have a day one Pre and was really turned off by the "no more updates" thing. I'll be jumping ship to the Nexus S next week. However, I might hang in there if Palm/hp does right by the original crew. The clock is ticking. (BTW, my day one Pre is still in 98% original condition.)

Your phone is just stuck in headphone mode. Quite common. Run this script:

    Code:
    #!/bin/sh

    echo -e \\vMEDIA
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/media/setVolume '{"scenario":"media_front_speaker","volume":100}'
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/media/setVolume '{"scenario":"media_back_speaker","volume":100}'
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/media/setVolume '{"scenario":"media_headset","volume":100}'

    echo -e \\vPHONE
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/phone/setVolume '{"scenario":"phone_front_speaker","volume":100}'
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/phone/setVolume '{"scenario":"phone_back_speaker","volume":100}'
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/phone/setVolume '{"scenario":"phone_headset","volume":100}'

    echo -e \\vRINGTONE
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/ringtone/setVolume '{"volume":100}'

    echo -e \\vSYSTEM
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/system/setVolume '{"volume":100}'

    echo -e \\vRINGER SWITCH
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.keys/switches/status '{"get":"ringer"}'

    echo -e \\vHEASET JACK
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.keys/switches/status '{"get":"headset"}'

    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/media/setCurrentScenario '{"scenario":"media_back_speaker"}'
    luna-send -n 1 palm://com.palm.audio/phone/setCurrentScenario '{"scenario":"phone_front_speaker"}'
Then take some rubbing alcohol and dip the plug of a pair of headphones in it and jam it in and out of the jack a few times. Twist it is bit while it's in. Should fix you right up.

    @Buhwheat.....

Take a cotton swab and gently pull on the cotton a bit, away from the tip. Dip in alcohol (wring the excess alcohol out) and swab the inside with a twisiting motion. That will better serve to remove the lint, etc. from the port.

Once you get it working make sure it is totally dry, and then buy some graphite powder and read this thread: http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pr...-easy-fix.html

Since the term on topic seems to be used loosely in this thread, I just activated my pixi 3 days ago. Loving it. But with 2.2 possibly hitting on Tues, should I wait for the update, or get preware installed now? will preware and the over clock still work after the update?

I think this is my first post after being a parasite for month.

    sent from pixi
  11. #151
Its not coming on the 2nd.
  12.    #152
Preware will not do anything and will not overclock just download it now if you want, but when you upgrade you'll loose preware, its not hard to re-download it so i think you should.

And its coming Monday not Tuesday.

I don't really care either way. I installed 2.1 a month and a half ago...

I removed a few lines from the chat that gave out too much personal information about me. Other than that, this is an unedited chat (including typos) I had with Sprint a few minutes ago! From the email transcript they emailed to me.

Woo hoo for webOS v2.0 on Sprint !!!
"Hello. My name is Knox, and I'm addicted to webOS patches!"

I'm believing this less and less. I believe that's officially confirmation that our wimpy Pre- is getting EVERY version of 2.*...

    2.0, 2.1, AND 2.2

I don't understand. What in my chat makes you believe less? She (he?) said "There is not any specific date released yet. However, it will be updated soon."

Clearly, I had been doubtful also: hence why I went to the trouble of chatting them up!

I think they meant v2.x not v2.0. Using 2.0 as a generic term for the current version number.

I don't think they would say this if it weren't pending. This is just from too many DIFFERENT agents for it not to be true. It would be a public relations nightmare for them.

BTW, what do you mean "every" version?
"Hello. My name is Knox, and I'm addicted to webOS patches!"

Yes, they have confirmed that it will be webOS 2.2
