help: unlock french pixi carrier

Hi everyone,
mi sister lived in france for the last 6 months and she bought a Palm Pixi.
Now she came back to my country (Argentina), and I wonder if I can unlock it for use it with our carriers.
I have seen lot of web pages selling activation codes... is that OK?
