Is there anyway to control the volume, track selection, etc.. with the hardware buttons on the 650 when playing PocketTunes? I know the 5-way button works when PT is the the foreground, but I want to be able to turn off and deactivate the screen, slip the 650 in my pocket and have only a a couple of the hardware buttons active so I can use the 650 pretty much like an Ipod. Maybe also have the green phone button to work also so I can quickly answer a call if need be.

The manual mentioned it was possible to do this with Zodiac devices but there didn't seem anyway to do this on the 650.

My trial period expired with PT so I can't really test this myself anymore. Thanks.

Ok - One of my co-workers also has a 650 and we just loaded it up with PT (it being a Saturday and all and we shouldn't be working too hard really) and I can't seem to get the hardware buttons to control PocketTunes once the screen blanks.

Sorry, but if this is true, this is just really lame. The Axim I had 4 years ago could do this. You'd figure a $35 app on top of a $600 smart phone would have this functionality. Someone please tell me I a missing something obvious here.

On a side note - what's the deal with all the apologists around here for crap software? I've spent some time recently downloading various progams that people have been swearing by and I have been left a little underwhelmed.

I don't think it's possible to control any Pocket Tunes functions once the screen is off.

When the screen is on, and PT is working in the background, the volume can be controlled with the rocker up down button (on the side of the Treo).

The only way to control some PT functions with the screen off, that I am aware of is by using this software in-conjunction with a button style headset.

"I don't think it's possible to control any Pocket Tunes functions once the screen is off. "

    Thanks for the reply Hicks.

So why is this though? You'd figure this feature would be a no-brainer. Is the lack of it due to some sort of limitation inherent in the Palm OS API? PocketMusic is free for Pocket PC and even it supports this.

Well the guys at PT just lost a sale. Beyond the Internet Audio option, there's not much of an advantage over this from the the free TCPMP player (a good program btw). I'm not paying $35 for a a pretty skin and the ability to make playlists.

The only hardware button that works with the screen off is the sliding mute switch, so I'm not too sure why other buttons don't function either via software.

I must admit that I do own a Deluxe version of PT and am pleased with it's functionality overall. I keep my Treo in my pocket and can turn the screen on and control the volume, next/ previous track (using the 5 way nav buttons) without needing to get it out of my pocket.

I never use the internet audio option because I only get 10MB per month on my contract!

You can't control PocketTunes with the Treo's hardware buttons while the screen is off, but if you use one of these apps, you can control it with a hybrid headset (like the one Seidio makes):
    HeadsetControl or MagicButton
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680
