I'm having a problem that when my Saved Preferences file gets corrupted (seems to happen every few weeks), and I restore it from a backup, I end up getting duplicate network services in Network Preferences. I'm using an Orange UK SIM in my SIM-free 650, and this originally set up network services for Orange Internet (GPRS) and Orange MMS. However, every time I have to restore Saved Preferences (using BBVFS), I end up getting another copy of both of these added to the list. So now, going to the network list, I have a choice of 4 identical Orange Internet connections, which is a bit annoying.

I can't actually delete any of these from inside prefs, because I get a "This network service has been pre-installed by your mobile service provider, and cannot be deleted." dialogue, but presumably there must be a hacky way of getting rid of these duplicates? Anyone? Thanks in advance!

I have had to do this type of restores a couple of times.. And I have duplicates as well.

Well, soon I'll be doing a hard reset when the new firmware is out. That will clear this up for sure.. Using another SIM (temporarily) may do this as well, as the settings for network are on the SIM.

I wonder what'll happen if you switch off the phone part, remove the sim, do a soft reset, and then re-insert the SIM ....

Annoyingly, those Orange duplicates stay there through SIM card swapping, removal and resets! And oddly, the connections from a Vodafone SIM are only present when the Vodafone SIM is installed.

We are getting into dangerous territory here: but what if you delete NetworkProfiles2.pdb and NetworkDB.pdb from the phone and Bachup directory and do a soft reset?

I hope someone who really knows these things chimes in...

    I've got decent backups anyway...

That seems to have done the trick. It's removed the other networks I had set up as well, of course, but they're easy enough to reconfigure.

    Thanks!

Use the search feature.. This has nothing to do with replacing saved prefs, but it likely happened when the same crash that hosed saved prefs occured.

You can use filez to edit the NetworkDB.PDB, or as someone said, delete it and reboot. If you have any custom network entries, editing with filez is the best option.. Or get it the way it's supposed to be, copy it to SD card like saved preferences, and restore it if it gets hosed.

That said, since locking relevant programs with Resco Locker I haven't lost [un]saved preferences or networkdb or anything.

Use FileZ, select NetworkDB file. Menu - item, Edit. Use the record list & View menu to find the duplicates & delete the ones you don't want! NetworkProfiles2 & CarrierProfiles2 copy them in & sometimes gets confused - nothing that can't be fixed.

Thanks for that! I just discovered the same problem after re-installing my apps and databases and there was a convenient topic right there on the first page of the forums!

    Layman's guide:

    1) open Filez
    2) 'View and edit files'
    3) tap the arrow next to 'internal' to open the file tree
    3) find NetworkDB (it should be highlighted green)
    4) tap on it, which should put a little red tick next to it.
    5) Press 'Menu' then 'E' to edit the file
    6) You will see a Record List with numbers from 0 upwards
    7) Tap on each one individually and check the size. My Orange Internet one is 763
    8) As a guide, duplicated records should be the same size as each other, but to be absolutely sure, click edit on each one and see what they say on the right of the screen. On my Treo 'Orange Internet' is clearly visible.
    9) Once you've decided which the duplicates are, highlight them and tap 'Delete'
    10) Exit Filez and check your network settings.
