So is it that the Verizon profile is hard-wired to hang up when you press the * key?
    Hi,

Could it be that pressing '*' ends the call automatically on the Verizon end ?

They wouldn't have to be tied to specific functions.
So what would they do ? how would you set them up ?

Nope. I got around the problem by creating a new profile from scratch using the Default profile. Now it works fine.

Okay, currently each button type has an icon hard-wired into it. From what I can figure out, all buttons except the bottom row should be programmable to do anything any other button does, right? So why not de-link the particular icon and make it changeable - the default icons are great for most setups, but you can't have an icon for a particular function that's not included.

Or maybe just make the "None" button allow for an extended set of icons?

Examples of Verizon functions that aren't included in your buttons/icon sets:

Private (not the same as your Private function)
    Urgent
    Confirmation
    Future Delivery
    Recorded Message Review
    Change Password
    Group Lists
    Message Waiting Indicator On/Off
    Greetings
    Pager Notification Settings
    Extended Absence

You get the idea. I personally don't want to create profiles for every possible nook and cranny of my voicemail, but more icon options (and the ability to edit icons) would be nice.

    Hi,

Could it be you left the "hangup" icon there ?

No, I'm quite sure I switched it to the None button type. I tried this several times.

    Yes, I just did -
    1. Create new profile using Verizon template
    2. Edit * button, set from Hang Up to None in button type

I go into Verizon voicemail and listen to messages, then once the messages have played I hit * - I can hear it going back to the top menu, but 2dial exits back to the dialer and hangs up.

This doesn't happen now that I set up a new profile from scratch, not using the Verizon profile.

Maybe this is particular to the 700p for some weird reason?

BTW - I just downloaded TakePhone yesterday to try it out, it's great! I have to say I thought it wouldn't make much difference for me, but it is exactly what I didn't know I needed

Well - tried just that on my Treo 680, and it seems to work (of course - I am dialing my own carrier and not Verizon).

When you say "I hit *" - you mean the button on screen ? or the kayboard button ? Have you tried both ?

I mean that I pressed the button on the screen, the keyboard button doesn't disconnect.

I just tried it again for the many-ith time - once I go into listening to my messages, at the end when it's telling me the options for the message, if I press the * button on the keyboard, it exits to the top menu - ditto for the profile I made from scratch, but the two profiles I made from the Verizon template and then edited the * key to the None key type both hang up while the Verizon robo-voice goes back to the top menu. It sounds like this doesn't make sense to you, but I guarantee it's true.

    Hi,

I fully believe you that's what happens to you.
Can you create such a "bad" profile, and email it to me (use the "export" option) ?

    Shimon,

I love to leave 2dial in the "Monitor calls (auto-activate)" mode. However, doing so apparently causes recording programs like CallRec and RecorderX to record silence instead of actual audio. For instance, when I play back a "recording" of a 2 minute 15 second phone call, I discover that the recording is nothing but 2:15 of pure silence.

The best solution would be if 2dial would activate when appropriate but also always allow a recording program to record actual audio. An acceptable fallback would be if 2dial could at least allow a recording program to record audio when no 2dial activation is indicated.

Is there any hope of getting 2dial to play nicely with these apps?

    Hi,

This is really strange - as far as I can tell, 2dial does nothing when in "monitoring" mode to affect recording.

I guess you mean this happens for calls recording ?

Can you record while not in a call ?

Do I understand correctly that recording does start and end, but just does not record anything ?

Does this happen only for numbers defined in 2dial ? or for all calls ?

    Thanks.

Sorry Shimon, I was premature at blaming 2dial. Apparently my tests were confounded by a device reset. Notwithstanding any 2dial settings, I can record the first call after a reset, but then all recordings end up blank. Let me do some more testing.

As to your other questions, right now *all* recordings end up blank, not just phone calls -- another indication that 2dial is not involved. Recording does start and end, and the duration of the recording corresponds to the duration of the phone call (or manual recording session) but the recording only contains pure silence -- not even static.

Any specifics about that first call after a reset ?
Does it have to be one where 2dial pops up ?

Shimon, my difficulty turned out to be an interaction between the recording programs and the Headset Bypassed feature in VolumeCare by GoTreoSoftware. It had nothing to do with 2dial.

Glad to hear you figured it out.

    Hi,

Posted new version of TAKEphONE, 2day, 4cast & 2dial, to help resolve an issue with the Palm image library tha caused TreoLauncher to not use its wallpaper.

(for TAKEphONE & 2day there are more changes - please check the “changes history” link at the beta page).

The new versions can be downloaded at the beta page.

    Thanks.
