    ** This Program is No Longer Supported. Please upgrade to HourlyXCast **

    Summary:
    I always wanted a way to check out the forecast on an hourly basis, not just what Today's average weather would be. Tell me the Hour when I can expect the rain!! Well, now you can too.

    This small application is entirely text based, but is small and gives you the information. Information is downloaded live from weatherchannel.com! Check the screenshot below. Information the program shows:

    Hour - Weather Summary - Temperature - Chance of Precipitation

    I have not modified the program in months, but I find it useful and thought some of you might like it too.

    Installation Instructions:
    -> Download Hourly4Cast.prc
    -> Download and extract zipChange.zip to the same directory you placed Hourly4Cast.prc
    -> Run zipChange.exe to Change to your own zip code.
    -> A new file called Hourly4CastXXXXX.prc will show up in the same directory (XXXXX = your zip code)
    -> Hotsync Hourly4CastXXXXX.prc

    **Recommended for Treo 650 Users: If you have not already downloaded and installed it, you may install j9secpol.prc to suppress a connection permission request dialog.

    Delish:
    * Shows weather information for the next 12 hours!
    * Small (19k)

    Limitations:
    * Requires Java!!
    * Does not cache results, must refresh every time program is run (but it's quick to refresh)
    * Cannot Change Zip code from inside program. Included is an executable that will change the five digit zip code (standard zip code is my Midtown New York City zip code, 10016) to whatever you like.

    ------
    *Note: If you don't use Windows, you can still just open the Hourly4Cast.prc with a hex editor and change all instances of 10016 to whatever five digit zip code you like.

    Awesome!

    Got an error on first run but no problems there after. I set it up to query with my zip code So this queries a service that is updated hourly?

    This actually gets its information live from weatherchannel.com. Gonna update that now in the description post. Thanks Tem for trying it out!

    Works flawlessly for me. Really useful and small. Definitely follows the K.I.S.S. principle! Thanks!
    I've heard that polar bear steaks are tough, but maybe if you marinated them in beer they'd turn out all right.

    This is pretty fricken cool, fast, detailed, works from the card. I put links to it over at my home site for best free palm apps. Where did you find this?

    It beats the heck out of my 5am general email telling me its guess for the next 24 hours.

    Thanks

    Great program. Two questions. Is there any way to disable the permission screen? It is very annoying. Also, it would really be about a thousand times more useful if you could change the zip from within the program. Just some thoughts for your next revision.

    I am really impressed with a program that does one thing and seems to do it well. Good job.

    If I'm repeating what someone has already said look at how long the thread is and ask yourself if you really expect me to read the whole thing.

    I know, I tried and tried to find information on how to get rid of that permission screen online, but was never able to find a way to disable it. Something about it being a j2me midp requirement. But, i'll contact the author of Kmaps to see how he got around it.

    Ya, Ivan (KMaps) originally said it was a java thing and there was nothing he could do about it but now that you say that your right, it dosent come up anymore with KMaps.

    Not to be too dense..."How do I get change the zip code?" I downloaded both apps to my desktop opened exe file and then installed the program.

    Haha, my immediate thought also. Oh well, it might be a great app, but I ain't installin' Java!

    I installed java for Kmaps and I think it takes up a little less than 2 megs but I wouldnt swear on that.

    Program sounds nice. Any chance it could be written without Java requirement?

    Yeah. I too am glad to have some reason other than Kmaps to justify having JAVA on my Treo. It is amazing to me that even with JAVA installed I still cant view JAVA sites with Blazer. Am I completely confused, or shouldn't that work?
