Can you put folders on the SD expansion card? I hate having everyting in one large folder.

    Thanks in advance

yes. if you have already used the card in the Treo, look at the contents of the expansion card, and you'll see there are already folders. be aware that in order to be seen by the Treo, programs and their data have to be in a particular place -- eg, most programs go into /palm/launcher automatically, i think (i'm hotsyncing at the moment) so don't move anything you haven't put there yourself. also some programs create their own directories on the card, eg Pro Audio Recorder creates a subfolder called "Audio." (i think.) i keep several extra directories of my own for mp3s or text files that i import manually.

You can use a card reader to look at the card with your desktop computer, or install a file manager, like FileZ, to browse your card on the Treo.

Getting suggested file now. Will it create folders and move the files to folders I suggest?
  6.    #6
Ok, let me back up. You seem to know what you are doing and I don't : ) When I sync to my phone and move items to my phone it will place them in the directories they need to be in. Now step back a little. When I go to my phones memory, I have an option to move things form one folder to another and can even create them. If I hit my home key, I can jump from one folder to the next. So from what you are saying, I should be able to do the same thing with the expansion card?

Thanks for taking the time to help me....

You'll need a 3rd party launcher for that; apps will only work from the default directory otherwise.

: ) Yeah, that is all I was trying to do.

One more thing, when I first got the phone, if I hit the home button it would pull up my last folder. WHen I hit it again, it would go to the next folder etc. Now when I hit it, it only comes up to the last folder I had open.... if I hit it again, it still stays on that one. Any recomendations?

Have you perhaps attempted to install a 3rd party app launcher?

Yes. How did you delete it? Reinstall it, make sure that it's disabled and then delete it using the native launcher's App/Delete menu.

I reinstalled it, but this time, it works much better. I bet last time I told it to go to the card. I had to run th elauncher each time. Now when I hit the home button, it brings up the launcher, and rotates through the folders. : ) THanks for the help.... looks and works much better now.

    2. Mp3s have to be in /Audio
    3. Pictures have to be in /DCIM

hmm, i've got mp3s in subdirectories in /MUSIC, & Ptunes finds them just fine. maybe RealAudio needs them in /Audio? here, /Audio is where P.A.R. puts files when transferring from internal RAM.

You're right, PTunes added a feature some time ago that overrides the default and allows you to specify which card directories hold you music. I assume that Realplayer requires the default setting, but I don't know...I've never used anything except PTunes and Aeroplayer.

What is the default card directory. I've migrated from a Kyocera 7135 to a Treo 600 and now a Treo 650. It appears that each migration has created a new master folder and then forced previous folders to subfolders.

In the mail folder there are the following subfolders: DCIM, Documents, Palm, RN_Audio. I know that RN_Audio is for real audio, DCIM appears to be for photos, Documents is for Documents to Go.

The "Palm" folder gets problematic. It has Backup, Launcher and Programs.

Launcher has folders for Audio, DCIM and Palm (again)

That "Palm" subfolder again has a "Launcher" subfolder.

Unfortunately, Palm does not seem to provide documentation on dealing with the SD card structure. And, their upgrades only make matters worse by adding new file structures. Your help is appreciated.

Your card should look like this:
    /Audio
    /DCIM
    /Documents
    /Palm
    /Palm/Backup
    /Palm/Launcher
    /Palm/Programs
    /RN_Audio

Applications that run from the card should be in /Palm/Launcher. Applications that store data on the card will likely put it in their own directories under /Palm/Programs.

/DCIM is for the camcorder and camera app. on the Treo 650 right?
/Documents is for Documents to Go is that right?
