    Version 3.2 Professional:

Thanks for trying BBVFS 3.2 which we think is by far the best BBVFS yet.
    Here's a highlight of what's new:
    * NEW: Faster than lightening backup and restore speed performance improvements up to 400% when using encryption, 200% without
    * NEW: "Allow auto off during backup" option in preferences allows Treo users to keep their smartphone's screen off during backup to preserve battery life
    * NEW: Snooze option in Backup countdown screen
    * NEW: Added scheduling preference for automatic scheduled backup "If no HotSync in: X hours". This option (i.e. X) can be set to days, hours, or minutes.
    * NEW: Highly accurate backup/restore progress meters and significantly more responsive Cancel button
    * NEW: Handheld will now stay on to finish backup irrespective of handheld auto-off time

Bug fixes include, but aren't limited to:

    * FIX: Problem restoring certain databases with records > 64K
    * FIX: Backup log corruption in German builds
    * FIX: BBVFS Personal backing up to T5 internal drive instead of SD card
    * FIX: Unable to backup some T3 files and WiFi files
    * FIX: Crash when attempting to backup to a locked SD card

Well I downloaded a copy, performed a backup, hard reset and tried to restore:

Hmmm...I've never had a problem with BBVFS before, but v3.2 wouldn't restore several files - including all of my PIM databases! Luckily, I'd created a checkpoint before installing the new version and after reinstalling v3.1.4 I was able to restore without any problem.

This version has some neat features...I like that it backs up without turning on the screeen and - wow - it is blazingly fast now; but I can't use it if it won't restore my data.

I'm off to send an error report to Bluenomad.

Every time I try to backup, even after creating a new checkpoint, it says "Some errors were encountered during backup process." It says some files were not backed up. But the backup never even started.

Okay I was able to backup. Do not know about restore. If this version is buggy that is too bad because I am leaving town for a week and not being able to restore in case of problem over the week is bad.

I did a restore last night and it said there were some errors and all files were not restored. I could not find anything wrong. All apps worked. All registrations were intact. I feel it was some of the network files that get redone each time the Treo is reset.

Even though I use BBVFS, it is for sentimental reasons (I'm that sort of a guy :-)

Resco Explorer has become my main Backup tool.

I consistently get the following error when trying to restore with 3.2:

    "Unable to transfer
    <database name here>
    Database: record deleted (0x020A)"

    for the following files:
    ClipProClips-ClpP
    DocToGoDB
    MIDI Ring Tones
    SndFile Ring Tones

The original test earlier today also produced that error for my Calendar, Contacts and Tasks databases; but since then I've run dbScan and removed all deleted records for the Palmone and Palmsource databases.

Version 3.14 restores its own or a 3.2-produced backup perfectly.

For the time being, I'm sticking with 3.14.

Have to agree... I've been a long time supporter of BBVFS, often reporting bugs. But the fact is that Resco Backup is just better... more features, faster (at least than previous versions of BBVFS), and most importantly, rock solid in full restores (where BBVFS had some issues). Both developers are responsive, although I'd even give that edge to Resco...

I love BBVFS - Version 3.1.4 works great - but I'm not upgrading to this new version until the bugs get worked out.

How can they not catch these bugs in the "LAB" and fix them before release???

Did you guys notify Blue Nomad of these bugs? Any reply?

    THANKS for the heads up.

I sent in a complete report; their reply:
"Thanks for the info, I will pass this on to the developer and see what he has to say. I'll let you know of any news on this. It seems strange as we haven't had any issues like this with testing..."

For the first time ever, I've had a huge battery drain issue after installing the new version. Last night, it also locked up during the nightly backup and I didn't notice it until this morning. The lockup left my screen on the entire night.

I've changed the backup options today, hopefully that will fix the drain.

    Hi,

This is Bobby from Blue Nomad.
This issue has been fixed in 3.2.1. If you have 3.2 installed,
    see below:

Please try a clean install of BBVFS 3.2.1. If you can
launch BBVFS on your device, use the "delete backup files" option in the
BBVFS basic screen menu to remove all backup files.

If you cannot run BBVFS on your device, use the Palm delete tool from
the "app" menu in your main palm launcher. Delete BBVFS from the memory
card and from your device. Also delete the BBVFS directory from the card
and any files in it. You can use a program like Filez to do this.

    Filez is free:

    http://www.palmgear.com/software/sho...fm?prodID=9992

Once you have removed your old backup files and BackupBuddyVFS,
soft reset the device and reinstall the latest version of BBVFS
3.2.1 to the device main memory (RAM). You can download it from here:

    http://www.bluenomad.com/bbvfs/bbvfspro.zip

Please give it a try and feel free to contact me at support@bluenomad.com with
    any questions.

    My observations:
    1. 3.2.1 does indeed take care of that "deleted record" error.

    2. 3.2.1 is much slower than 3.2 during backup

    3. 3.2.1 doesn't update the "Last Backup:" date/time on the Basic screen

    4. Both 3.2 and 3.2.1 seem to have increased their memory overhead. This can most easily be seen by deleting the current backup (Options/"Delete backup files") before running a backup process. Immediately after a soft reset, I've got 9.1 MB available in DB Cache (6.75 MB available NVFS): a brand new backup (iow, after deleting the current backup files), immediately preceeded by a soft reset, using v3.1.4 will finish without problem; both 3.2 and 3.21, under the same circumstances, crash 3/4 of the way through the backup - seemingly from lack of available db cache.

Although I don't experience crashing with 3.2.1 unless I start with deleted backup files, I think I'm sticking with 3.1.4 for the time being.

What about the regular version users, any problems? if so any fixes coming soon?

New version slows and hangs - have to perform a soft rest.

Please try a fresh install of 3.2.2 if you have an issue with a
crash during a long backup session. The developer has just posted this
and it should fix any issues with crash during a backup.

Both the Pro and Personal version downloads have been updated.
You can download the latest Pro from the same link as before:

    http://www.bluenomad.com/bbvfs/bbvfspro.zip

It should read 3.2.2 in the about screen after install.

Ps. the issue with the "last backup" date display is fixed in 3.2.2.

    Thanks,

    Bobby Genest
