If you sign up with Palm, they will tell you about 3 months after they release it (for instance a buddy of mine just got a message from them about the July update)

I would think your best bet is to subscribe to this thread, since you will probably hear it here first

    I'll share my little trick.
    I use http://www.watchthatpage.com/
I have it monitor http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...lockedgsm.html daily. When it detects a change from the previous scan it'll email you.
So as soon as it's posted (or within 24 hours) you'll get an email.
I use this to monitor http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/treo650.html as well as a few other sites such as favorite software that I want the latest releases of.

By the way, for those of you anxiously awaiting news of this release, relax. I'm sure it's well over a month away, trust me. If make any changes it'll have to soak for at least 2 weeks before they can release it and I'm sure they're still making changes. I for one don't know if I can stand to stay subscribed to this thread that long.

Also, I expect this to be the last and final Treo650 update (for unlocked GSM.) I believe they'll shift all develpment and QA resources to the 700 and beyond once they get the finaly 650 releases out.

The rest of us have it bookmarked and we go there every hour and see if it's there, yet.... Is it there, yet?... What about now?... Not Yet?... Now?... What?... Not now?... Now?... Yet?... Not yet?...Is it there yet?...

Yes, I suppose if I really had to, I could cut my checking down to once an hour like curlykraut. Now that guy has patience, let me tell you. Dunno how he does it.

man, once they release the treo700w for gsm, that's the day my treo650 goes to hell. i'm sick of the stupid bluetooth (crackling noise when using bluetooth headset) in my treo to the point that I almost (yeah, almost) throw the damn phone to the floor many times already.
  10. #110
I get no cracking on my bluetooth.

Sorry guys. According to P1 the final update will be compiled this week, so the official public release will (as ussual) be about a month later..... I hope the final will really be ready this week, so I can test it myself. If I can get the list of fixes I will let you know.
If I get more info I will post it...

P1 is really testing everybodies patience .......

FYI: BBC will be released somewhere next year for the T650 and T700w
It won't be a part of the coming update.

if I have a locked Cingular(1.15 and 1.31) and want the GSM update later this month, I must first get an unlock code, unlock it and then I would be able to update to the new firmware(ROW)...is that correct?
  14. #114
Wow, Palm should really make this release perfect.

That's exactly what I do too - I have hundreds of pages on there... drivers, software, competitions, TV show audience sites, you name it! Damn handy!

It doesn't really matter whether your device is locked or not; the problem is your CNG software. The official ROW update checks the current version and won't install over CNG; in order to apply the newest official ROW, you'll need to first apply one of the older unofficial ROW updates (1.21 or 1.23) that doesn't check for version.

Wow, I really hope not. Judging by the track record so far, I bet we'll still see the same bugs some of us have been screaming about since day one:

    1 - volume rocker doesn't silence ringer
2 - DTMF tones played while searching contacts during a call if "typing searches contacts" selected in phone prefs
3 - cosmetic: keypad bitmap overlaps calendar events on phone screen

If this truly is the last release, and they don't fix those issues, that's it for me and Palm. I've had every phone-based treo since the 180 (the 90 wasn't a phone for those who don't know) and they've all been perfect at what they did. As soon as Palm took over the Treo line from Handspring (starting with the 650 - several 600's were palm branded but handspring was still handling the design) the quality control went down the toilet.

Is it ok to apply a ROW firmware to CNG phone? Or will it destroy the phone?

(again, you'll have to excuse my dumbness)

It won't destroy the phone. In theory, it could void your Cingular warranty.
