Well, it's stung me enuf times now I have to throw in the towel.

I have 5 email accounts setup, all prefs set, email being stored on card, etc. and BLAM: It all has to be done again because of "Corrupt Database" errors.

This happens to me at least once every 4-6 weeks or so.

Snapper Support keeps telling me to uninstall and reinstall ... I'm done. It takes me 30 minutes to reconfig and another 2 hrs to sync up the pop accounts.

I've been using SnapperMail for 3 years now, and am a Premier customer ... but I have lost faith.

So now I'm using VersaMail until I find something stable.

    Hello Serpico,

Try using Aileron Mail the mobile email solution can be used to manage mailboxes that are accessible via: IMAP4 and POP3 (with or without SSL), portals like Hotmail, MSN, AOL, GMail, Yahoo, as well as Microsoft Exchange based mailboxes that are accessible via Outlook Web Access. A no-cost no-obligation evaluation is available.

I invite you to experience Aileron Mail. If you have questions, you can always meet me on-line for interactive chat between 7am and 5pm EST, Monday through Friday, at www.corsoft.com.

Snapper works very well for me.. I don't store anything to the card, as I use all imap, but that's my preference.

ChatterEmail has its features, but it makes the Treo sluggish and hard to turn on sometimes, and overall seems more unstable. After I stopped using the trial, all went back to normal. So that was enough for me..

khatsys - Chatter has been rock solid for the vast majority of users, and sluggishness implies a setup issue. Sorry it didn't work out...

Snappermail is living on the past. They promised so many things, but they never delivered. I enjoyed Snapper for some time, but I also got a corrupted database errors twice and I got really pissed because I lost lots of emails. This was about 6 months ago. Then, I decided to try ChatterEmail, but it wasn't as user friendly as snapper and I had my doubts about reliability. However, today I can say that Chatter is the best email app for the Treo.

Don't take it personally, it has a huge feature set and if one needs instant email delivery, obviously ChatterEmail is it. But when it was resident, turning on the Treo took a few button presses, sometimes took a few seconds.. Launch Chatter, force it to quit from the menus (shutdown and exit) and the problem disapeared.

I agree that some "setup" (ie: interaction with other applications) could be at fault, but the problem doesn't happen otherwise.

What would possibly improve the issue for me Chatter not staying resident if it's offline completely. Perhaps I would suggest that as a feature. If all mailboxes are offline and there is no qsync, when you exit the program, exit completely. Unless you explicitely do the "shutdown and exit" it stays resident. However that would put me in the minority of your users; ones who want to retrieve email on demand, not instantly, not periodically. Like when I'm at work, I have no need to pull email as I have it right in front of me, etc.

But since I am such a low profile email user on the Treo, and I already owned Snapper, I'll likely stick with it.

    Cheers.

Ok, so I've been using VersaMail for about a week after dumping SM ... and I gotta say I'm not that unhappy with it.

Sure, it doesn't have a bevy of features, but overall it's been doing exactly what I wanted it to do ... get my mail. I especially like the integration into the Phone "Today" Screen.

    This might be a keeper.

I have Chatter, but still need to uninstall Snapper form my T650. For some strange reason my Unintsall Manager app doesn't want to delete Snapper. Am I doing something wrong, perhaps? What are my other options?

Delete it via the delivered app launcher's App/Delete menu.

But I have SM integrated into my "Today" setup and I see where I can select VM as well.

Are you referring to something else?

When an app considers itself to be "resident," it's very dificult to remove it. Suggestion: download a (fully featured) trial of Blue Nomad's RemoveIt-- it allows you to one-tap "disable" the target app, so you can then undelete it completely.

    Hello Serpico,

I had the same experience with SnapperMail as you. I started using Snapper on my first Treo 300 and did do the upgrade to enterprise but my pain threshold is not high as yours. I switched to ChaterMail about a year ago when I got my last corrupt database error in Snapper. I opened a Fastmail IMAP account for spam filtering and push mail. I forward my POP3 to this account. I can report that ChatterMail is very stable and joy to use.

I use Snappermail with IMAP-SSL, perhaps there's a bug regarding the number of messages stored on the server as a result of using POP3. Perhaps with the volume of messages you have (if it takes 2Hrs to resync) you should really be using IMAP as the IMAP protocol is designed for such a load, POP3 was never really intended to leave messages on the server.

I've tried Chattermail now three different times and still fail to have it send an SMTP message using SMTP-SSL. I can watch server logs (tail -f /var/log/messages) and I never even see the attempted SSL handshake with stunnel. It just sits there on Chatter, I even reviewed (in Hex) the Debug log and the issues seem to point to a DNS resolution failure, so I tried using the IP Address (I know 100% that DNS resolution for the domain works fine, Snapper has no issues) and that didn't fix it either.

Are you using the Matrix SSL product with Chatter? That's required for SSL.

He is referring to a little icon showing on the phone screen, showing an icon and how many new, unread email messages are there.

Interestingly, I am using a ROM with Versamail deleted. And just the other day, I noticed that I now get a Snapper Icon with the number of unread emails on the resident phone screen. Before, when versamail was resident in ROM, even with Snapper chosen as my email default, it didn't show up.

Anyway, thought that was pretty neat
