I am trying to stream KOPB (out of Portland, OR). The two URLs I have been using are:

    http://edtv.opb.org:80/radio.mp3, or
    http://edtv.opb.org:8000/radio.mp3

They also support Winamp and windows media....

I tried the above MP3 urls many times...only got it to work once. For the most part, my Treo650 (on Sprint) gets hung up on, "Reconnect". Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Can someone else try these urls?

    Looking at
    http://www.publicradiofan.com/
I see that most of the shoutcast stations use .m3u or .pls extension for streaming.

    Even Oregon Public broadcasting
    http://www.opb.org/programs/streams/
is using these extensions to stream
    http://www.opb.org/programs/streams/stream-radio.pls

Your links will download the mp3 file in full that you can save to the card and play back later. The infamous "podcast".

PS: I know this is self-defeating .. but which is the best NPR station for streaming? The one with least traffic and highest quality?

Actually, if you go to the opb.org website and navigate to their streaming information, the MP3 url's are for live streaming.

Aprasad, were you able to get those urls (that you provided) to stream? I am just trying to figure out if the issue is me or my Treo.

Speaking of which, do you know of any shoutcast stations that stream Air America? WKIZ in Florida used to carry it, but it seems they stopped.

When I go to their "Streams and Archived Audio" page at
    http://www.opb.org/programs/streams/
the 3 streaming links at the top of the page have .pls or .m3u extensions.

They still do; I'm listening to Al Franken right now via WKIZ's stream.

I haven't tried them. I'll try when I get home in the evening. The signal is much stronger there ..

I'm getting lockups too. But the signal is VERY weak here. I have streamed from other NPR stations (.m3u extensions). Try some others located via publicradiofan.com

    Try these links via blazer:

    http://www.wnyc.org/stream/wnycfm.pls for 32k FM
    http://www.wnyc.org/stream/wnycam.pls for 24k AM

    Schedule is available here: http://www.wnyc.org/schedules/today.html

Make sure you bookmark the one you want in ptunes so you can get back to it later.

shoutcast is .m3u or .pls (MP3 playlist streaming formats).
If you click the MP3 it will attempt to download the file first.

Ptunes support could not get this station to steam either. They are sending the issue to the developers to see if they can determine the issue.

Have you figured out an easy way to get AAR sets on your T650 automagically? I do cardio at the gym 3 days a week and would like to have AAR put on my T650 before I go. I haven't made the decision to pay Cingular $20/mo for data yet, so I would like to download it either on my xp or linux box and then have it put it on the SD card during a HotSync. Anyone seen this done?

So I solved my original problem...streaming my local public radio station. On another thread I read about Gloonet (personal streaming software). It did the trick. Downloaded, installed in 10 minutes. Works like a charm! Now I can hear opb.org (and all the music on my home PC via streaming).

How do you stream a radio station through Gloonet? Did you define a playlist on your PC that had the URL for the station, and then play that playlist via Gloonet?

I have Gloonet working for pictures and mp3's on my system..

Gloonet is great and will be fabulous when you can stream video from the home PC. I wonder how long it will be free ....

Yes, I did exactly what you described. Within ITunes, saved the desired station as a playlist, then accessed via Gloonet.

Many times, when opening a shoutcast link in Blazer, Save, "Save and open" in Ptunes, I won't get the sound right away. I have to press the power-off (red) button, which brings up the pTunes pop-up window (with option to power off or open ptunes). Then I get the sound.

It's as if ptunes was streaming but inaudible until something forced ptunes to the foreground. Maybe that is holding up the direct streaming of OPB site.
