MFB, how do you get 1.43 AND 1.13 instead of 1.43/1.14dbg?

Gadget: Rogers Treo 680 (unlocked) GSM
    Cases: Still deciding

I flash with 1.28/1.13(stripped down rom similar to what I posted for 1.43/1.14dbg) first then upgrade firmware to 1.43.

Seems to have fixed the sdcard mouting issue I had caused by whatever conflict in 1.31/butler/verichat that I was having.

Cellneuron, the reason you don't have that bug is because it came about on the Cingular 1.15 ROM, not the 1.13 or 1.14. The most recent OFFICIAL update from Cingular was fw 1.31/sw 1.15. If you have 1.13 or 1.14 you won't have the 30 second bug.

I have moved on to the unofficial fw 1.43/sw 1.15 but it has not fixed the bug, therefore I continue to use StopDim to fix it.

Seriously? You reset as many as 3 times a day? I use my Treo all the time, using Agendus (ugh, trial, I think it's going to get buried soon), DateBk5, several large astronomy apps, TakePhone, and a bunch of little things all day long.

The *only* time I ever reset is when either the phone goes into slow motion for whatever reason. That happens maybe once a week at worst.

Of course, I don't run some hacky dbcache thing constantly.

Update on this 1.43 firmware. I just got back from a 5 day trip from northern NJ to North Carolina. I make this trip often and previously my 650 would freeze up at least once due to the constant in and out of signal range(Cingular) that you experience as you travel via I-95 and when you get out in the country in NC. This time though, it was different. Even though I did go in and out of reception areas, my treo did not freeze once. So, it looks like they must of changed something for the better. The true test will be tomorrow morning when I make my daily commute to lower manhattan via the PATH. Usually it will freeze up 2 to 3 times a week as I go out of range and then come back.

On my cingular branded 650 running 1.13 ROW/1.43 FW, using the FW only update this is what I have noticed.

    - Louder earpiece volume, not much but noticable. Still to low IMO
    - Louder speakerphone, this is MUCH louder and leaving it on almost the lowest setting is the only way for the person on the other end of the phone to not hear and echo
    - Seems to connect to the network a little bit faster than before
    - Phone app is much faster. No more lagging between screens

Infact the phone has been running so well I stopped overclocking all together and Im happy with the performace. I still get a crash here and there but im sure its from 3rd party apps.

To get rid of the reset and unwanted crashes, update to the 1.14 full rom posted

I'm confused. In earlier posts you say you downgraded to 1.13-ROW to get rid of the crashes.

Yea ive heard both, maybe ill try it out. The resets are really few and far between so im kinda not wanting to mess up a good thing ya know....

Newbie to the Treo 650 so please bear with me for this question...

I have an unlocked Treo 650 and would like to know what the steps are to update the firmware to 1.43 and ROM to 1.14?

    It's quite simple:
Go to this thread and download the one called "FULL ROM" Don't screw around with the stripped ROM version.
    http://discuss.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=97640

Do a full backup of your Treo
Hard Reset the Treo (Hold power and push the reset button on the back, keep holding power until it holds on the PalmOne screen, then release and go through initial set up." Hard reset is important to make sure the ram is empty for the upgrade
Download the full rom from the thread link posted above and I think you can just hotsync it.
Anyone else here know if this can be hotsynced or if it must be installed from the SD card?
After installation is complete, I'd hard-reset it again, then restore your backup.

Oh, and almost forgot. It'd be a good idea to research everything about this new firmware 1.43 and software 1.14dgb by doing a forum search on "1.43" and/or "1.14"

Well I am having a strange result from this ROM/Upgrade. Let me explain:

Firstly, I installed the cut down version and ran that for a day. It worked as everyone stated.
Then on the second day, I installed the full version and it is still working extremely well except Battery Drain!!!
After being off the charger for about 6 hours, I am down to 63% battery! Usually I am still somewhere in the 90% range.
Today is the thrid day and I have been off the charge for about one hour and I am already down to 90%

The only background tasks that are running are Keyguard+ and a keyboard light dimmer. These were running even with the cut down ROM and the old ROM without any problem.

Does this update do something with the FAT filesystem driver? I ask as there was a little patch to improve the FAT driver (Taken from the lifedrive I think) that was causing a battery drain?

Has anyone else noticed their battery life going down the drain?
  14. #34
I am using the full version and have also noticed the battery drain you report. Are you saying that this does not occur with the firmware only version?

I still am foggy about one thing. I have experienced significant stability increases with this update. In the firware only description, they only mention phone improvements, such as volume, short dtmf tones, etc. Do the NVFS improvements come along with the firmware only version, or do I need to keep the full version for the memory fixes?

    Thanks!
  15. #35
I upgraded the firmware only, not the software. I'm still on software 1.13-ROW w/ firmware 1.43 and I haven't had any battery drain issues. I think this is only with the 1.14dbg software.

The 1.43 FW only affects the radio and related functions; to gain the improvements in db cache handling, you also need the 1.14 software update.

BTW, I'm using the "stripped down ROM" version of the full update (1.43/1.14) and am not experiencing any battery drain.

Hi. That exactly what I am saying. The Firmware only version did not drain my battery.

Okay, after 3 failed attempts (1 that lead to the dreaded "Not enough power to turn on phone" message and involved reinstalling 1.28, & 2 with misc. system errors), I appear to have finally installed 1.43 with 1.14.

However, at the end of the install, the message read "ROM update unsuccesful" or somesuch. Though the Phone Info menu now reads correctly for the new updates (Firmware 01.43, Software Treo650-1.14dbg/5052...), I found some left over installer detritus in the apps menu (ROM updater, etc). I've thrown away the obvious ones. Is there anything not visible that I should be aware of that might need to be deleted through FileZ? Is there any drawback to not having officially completed the install? I'm assuming that the final step that was missed was deletion of the installer files. I tried running the update again with the same results.

First I would like to thank you for the firmware.
I couldnt wait for PalmOne to release the ROM. I was too tempted so I just installed the firmware upgrade, not the software upgade. So far I love it and I wont install the software for reasons below results. anyway im very happy with my treo 650 so far (unlocked cingular on tmobile).

    Here are my sweet results:

    • Better Radio connection(not signal strength) it just attempts to connect faster after you lose connection.
Sound is awsome in speakerphone and pocket tunes. I still use volume care just incase.
Treo waking up issue less present(although i took of keygaurd) so hmmm screen doesnt turn on by itself often, only when signal is gained/lost.
      Less hangs.

Ill have to dig this rom more to see the pros and cons. Right now i want to know what db cache handling does exactly? is it switching from different apps and such? i dont know

I think i'll stop here and play it safe and not install the software, since i dont know how. Do i do the same? meaning extract everything to sd card folder in laucher and start? the ROM download files have folders like the row folder and senarios, do i take out the files from those folders and put them in same folder on the SD card or palm or make new folder on sd card or palm and drag customization folder and start.prc to it?

    EDIT.
NEVER MIND I FOUND IT. DOH!

seems like pxa clocker doesn't work anymore.... but i can hit 140 kb on edge for the first time, and everything else seems to be fixed. When i updated only the firmware to 1.43 and left ROM as 1.31 there seemed to have been problems with the Radio. Now everything is fine after I upgraded the ROM too
