I would really like the option to shut 4cast down during certain hours. My Treo sits on my bedside table during the night and occasionally the light from the Treo firing up to update 4cast will wake me. Additionally, during meetings, I'd rather not have the update possibly occur (oddly enough, I've actually had this happen more than a dozen times...right when I needed to access my date book or such...weird).

    Hi,

I am trying to find a way to keep the screen off during the auto-update.

As for the second scenario - just hit Cancel. isnt that ok ?

Would it be more simple to design in a scheduler that allows you to shut down updates during a specified period (I'm thinking of Chime, just for an example)? I don't know, just asking.

Absolutely that is of course how I handle the "inopportune" occurrences. That is of course less doable at 2 a.m. I only mentioned the second scenario as it would be an additional use for being able to schedule a "no update window".

Great product that I use several times daily. Thanks for the good work, your zeal in keeping your products (I own this and TakePHone) fresh and your timely responses to folks' requests.

    Be well.

Yes - I do plan on doing that, too.

"can't connect to internet 1212" is shown when trying to refresh only thru my AT&T Media Net, wap.cingular connection. BT network refresh is good. Used to work good for Media Net, not any more...

    Hi,

Can you try browsing to http://weather.yahoo.com using your Web browser ?

    Hi,

    Thought so.
I would try a soft-reset (battery out-in). If this does not help, wait a couple of days - this usually clears out.

Shimon, Thanks for responding. I did the reset and now waiting the couple of days. I will report outcome then. In the mean time, I am considering this theory: Could Media Net be blocking http://weather.yahoo.com and if so, hopefully, not intentional. I already miss the on-the-go weather info this app can provide thru my T650.

    Hi,

Can you check this with them ?

I will do my best, might need some extra spare time if we are talking about a CS call.

The wait a couple days suggestion did the trick. More like 4 days tho, never the less, it would appear to be a Media Net issue. Thanks!

I would like to congratulate the developers on this extremely functional, solid app. No Palm should be with out it!

    Shimon,

I'm having a problem with the 4Cast plugin on both TAKEphONE and I8. The font is all blurry and unreadable all of a sudden. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, but that didn't help. I did notice in the plugins in I8 that there were two possible 4cast plugins, one called simply 4cast and the other called 4cast weather plugin. The later was causing the blurred font. I switched to the other and presto, it is clear as a bell. However, TAKEphONE is another story. I have no choice of which 4cast plugin, only to check the box or not check the box. I then tried to use FileZ to find the second plugin and delete it, but could only find one plugin. Now I should mention that I did download some new fonts for Fontsmoother a couple days ago, which might be causing part of the problem, but it only shows up on this plugin and as I said, the other choice in I8 worked fine. Any ideas?

BTW, I'm using the latest versions (beta or released) of 4cast and TAKEphONE and the latest released version of I8.

    Hi,

How does it look if you disable Font Smoother ?

    Can you send/post a screenshot ?

    Thanks.

I tried your suggestion and it is definitely an issue with the interaction with FontSmoother. I changed the font size from 18 to 17 and now everything looks fine.

    Hi,

I have been getting requests for GIF maps/images support in 4cast.
Problem is I cant find any weather website that shows GIF map/satellite images - they all seems to have turned to using some other mechanism for animation.

    Is that right ?

    TIA

Did you try Weather Underground (mobile version)? When I saved the pic to my desktop, it appeared to still be in gif format. Here's a sample

    Thanks I got them.

As I suspected - they are not GIF images.
There was a time when websites used animated GIFs.
Now they all use some sort of scripting/flash to show the animation.

As a possible alternative, maybe we could work it so clicking the map would link to the site and pass it through as a web address so blazer could handle it. Not great as you still couldn't view it while offline. I like opening the current maps in 4cast rather than opening them in blazer. This would be for something that 4cast would normally fail to display. I'm not sure if you could do that bit of magic.

(Right now I just go into blazer to a bookmark but the above owuld save a few steps.)

It would be even better if WU was consistant enough with their name that it could be automatically done with the city but I highly doubt it.
