I was having some resets every time 4cast would automatically update, so I deleted and reloaded. I had to add my town as it is rather small and had no problems at all. If it means anything, I just edited El Paso with my town's code from yahoo.

Interesting, I'll have to give it another try, maybe caught yahoo (?) at a bad time.

I just installed the new ROM from Palm for my Treo 680. Now 4Cast won't refresh the forecast wirelessly. When I tell it to, it says it will update at the next hotsync.

My prefs for 4Cast have both "wireless" and "hotsync" enabled, with the Wireless suboptions set to disconnect after refresh, "Refresh every" is disabled, Refresh all is enabled. In "Advanced wireless prefs" it matters not if "Use HTTP library" is on or off, nor does it matter if "Check for Treo radio state" is on or off. The radio IS on, btw.

This is the current version, I believe: 1.80(001).

After you installed the Rom update did you do a fresh reinstall of all your applications and utilities? If not, you may want to try completely deleting 4Cast, syncing, and then reinstalling 4Cast anew. Maybe see if things work for you after that, it might be worth a shot.

Trying to do this, I now have a meaningful error: "No network connection found on device."

To be complete, this happens even when the network connection is already open. Blazer works, as does Google Maps Mobile.

I occasionally have the same problem. Sometimes it works and most of the time it does not work. It worked on my first Sprint 700P MR, but not routinely on the one I have now.

I don't have any problem with the latest 680 FW, but I'm using the stripped out branded ROM.

I can. Blazer, Google Maps Mobile and Iambic Mail all work. 4Cast does not.

Shimon, this has been an on-going problem since my Treo was replaced - it is not a MR problem (the first Treo was MRd). The other applications automagically update at their assigned time, which includes Epocrates and Quick News.

    Hi,

    Do manual updates work ?

Are you using Butler KeyGuard (or any other KeyGuard replacement) ?

    Hi all,

    Just posted 4cast 1.80 (003) at www.shsh.com/beta

    - Possible fix for Butler KeyGuard not turning on (for auto-updates).

    Thanks !

Anyway to be able to refresh the forecast without having the pop up message saying "4cast" will be update in 8 seconds Cancel/Refresh"? I'd like it to do so without having to confirm.

    Hi,

Currently 4cast has to be launched to the foreground in order to do the refresh (I know I can probably write the code to do all refreshes in the background like Chatter, but this takes quite some coding, and will probably force me to make it a "4cast+" that costs more...).

So - I found I have to be "polite" and ask the user if I can interrupt what he/she's doing right now to do an update.

Instead of doign it in the background, how about attaching the updating routine to the mini window that is opened to allow us to snooze? Would that be a quick change or would it also require a major rewrite?

    Hi,

Dont think it can be done, and anyway - would not change things.

It's working now. The only difference between then and now is that this time, 4Cast popped up a registration dialog when I started it. After entering my registration code (which I could've sworn I had already done, but might not have), 4Cast 1.80(001) went online and downloaded the forecast as if nothing had ever been wrong.

It would change one thing: the current method always dumps 4cast back to the top of the recently used apps. I've never had 4cast go to the top of the list when the refresh/snooze screen comes up.

    Hi,

That's exactly what I cant change - currently I have to launch 4cast to actually make the refresh.

Making it work without being launched will require a major re-construct of the app.

    Sorry..

    Shimon

    Two feature suggestions:

    1. ability to add more than two custom maps per location

    2. more importantly: would it be possible to have the option of location-specific refresh settings, in terms of the maps?

I like doing a refresh of a number of locations (plus all their maps) around 6.30am every morning, and then just doing minimal refreshes for my current location during the day.

Im sure flexibility in this area would be of use for many other uses as well.

    cheers
    geoff
