The difference is half the clicks for your regular cities that you use. With the drop down, it would be a quick 2 clicks to switch vs 4 clicks (assuming you don't have to use the menu to get to the dialog box - I can't seem to hit that little arrow consistantly for some reason) and skipping a dialog box.

Since I live so far from work, I'm usually switching between two cities a couple of times per day. I'm just trying to cut down the amount of time to see the other location's weather.

Does the new release address the "MemoryMgr.c, Line 4077: Free handle" crash when using a proxy on the TX?

    I'm using 4cast 1.700(038). What's the change between it and 1.80?
  4. #584
www.shsh.com/beta and look at the changes listed there. Ben

I tried that, but I don't see version changes. Just that 1.80 is the latest update.

I guess I wasn't paying enough attention. It has datebook6 plugin and auto update with hotsync. Since I don't use either feature, I hadn't noticed it as the change. Sorry about that.

    Hi,

    It should.

Try changing the "Use HTTP lib" setting under "Advanced wireless prefs" in general prefs page.

    Hi,

another quick question: it seems 4cast does not automatically update weather data when the device is locked at the time scheduled for update.

Would it be possible to make the update happen even if the device is locked, so it can update wheater data unattended at night?

    Hi,

    It should update...

Are you using a password ?
Or are you using another lock utility ?

I am just using the standard Palm lock mechanism: I need to enter a number (or password you might say) from the onscreen pin pad once the device is locked to get in. 4cast seems to want to start at night, but only once I unlock the device in the morning it tries to download an update.

    Hi,

This is a problem. I am not sure the OS will allow me to do the update without a password...

Will have to investigate this further.

The OS should allow this, as, for example, the application "Resco Backup Pro" does exactly this: it wakes up and uploads to an FTP server, all on my locked device.

Don't know though, if this requires a lot of effort...

    Thanks for looking into this!

Could the update be run in the background like versamail? I know nvbackup shows a gui when it is working but I'm not sure about resco.

It does show a little progress dialog. See www.resco.net.

    Hi,

Doing updates completely in the background would require a whole lot of work (and debugging). It's on my list, but cant tell for when...

Thanks for looking into this! It would really be a nice feature to have unattended updates at night.

Just added 4cast to 2day. Noticed something I assume everyone has noticed...if you open 4cast from 2day, then hit the left navigator, you will be taken back to 2day. If you open a map and you're using the browser to view it (which I do because I want animated maps), hit done (which takes you back to 4cast) then hit the left nav key, you are taken to the home page instead of 2 day. Any way around that? And also, from some custom maps, the 5 way doesn't seem to take me to the done button so I have to touch it. No big deal, but someone stated that the entire program would work without a stylus so I was wondering if I was missing something.....

    Hi,

Afraid if you're using the "Browser" as viewer, then I have to let go of the control of the device to the browser app, so these kind of "glitches" may not be possible to overcome.

I will check this out, though...
