Just got an e-mail from SplashData, Splashblog 2.0 is out. If your store more than 100 pictures, an annual charge of $29.95. If you already own this app, you get one FREE year. Just more money out of my pocket!

I'm pissed about this new pricing from Splash...

Has anybody installed the new v.2.0 version? After installing, it still shows version 1.51.

This is a really crappy pricing model. What they SHOULD do is grandfather existing customer that purchased s/w (and blog space) that they expected to be free for life.

Splash Data.... hello??? Are you listening to your customers??? hello???

I totally agree and I wrote them to tell them so. I bought the software once with NO intention of NO notification that this would or could become an annual charge service. And ESPECIALLY not at $29.95 a year! I try to do a sync last night and it won't let me sync because I'm now a "FREE" customer....this is really upsetting, since I do love my Splashblog....

    Flickr is free, right?

I haven't figured out how to redeem the free one year though?

    My email is as follows....

    Dear SplashBlog customer,

We recently upgraded SplashBlog and added many new features including multiple blogs per user, comments, RSS feeds and more! You can learn about the new features here: http://www.splashdata.com/splashblog/index.htm.

In order for you to continue syncing with splashblog.com you must install the latest version of SplashBlog on your handheld. If you¹ve added or modified photos in SplashBlog on your handheld and not yet uploaded them to splashblog.com, those photos will remain intact and will sync after you install the new version. You may use one of the following methods to install the new version.

How to upgrade wirelessly on your handheld:

    1. Launch SplashBlog on your handheld.

    2. Select Check for Updates from the Options menu and follow the prompts to download and install the new version.

    3. Once the new version is installed you should be able to perform a wireless sync with splashblog.com.

How to install from your PC:

    1. Download SplashBlog to your PC from here: http://www.splashdata.com/Downloads/SplashBlog.zip

    2. Double-click SplashBlog.zip to unzip the package. Drag the SplashBlog folder to your desktop to extract it. Open the folder and double click the SplashBlog.prc file to launch the Palm Install Tool, select the appropriate User, click OK and Done, then perform a HotSync to install SplashBlog on your handheld. You can delete the PRC file on your desktop after it has successfully installed on the handheld.

    3. Once the new version is installed you should be able to perform a wireless sync with splashblog.com.

We hope you enjoy using the new version of SplashBlog. We have many more features planned for SplashBlog that we will be rolling out in the weeks and months ahead.

Please let us know if you have any questions or comments.

    Sincerely,
    -SplashData

Sounds like SplashBlog is not getting many NEW users and Splash is looking to get existing users to support the product.

Well... they've lost a customer. I'm not about to pay $30/yr (even with the first year free). And, I don't want to even take them up on their free space for under 100 pics.

mszatny.... i think you hit it right on.

Well, I took them up on the one "free" year (why not???) but that's it. I'm getting pretty tired of uploading 5 pictures at a time, after navigating to each one individually, to no pre-set category. It takes forever.

I went ahead and updated, guess what? I have 2 splashblogs & it only let's me upload to one of them (add picture button dissapeared, except on one account)! So I have to pay $30 for each? or just for the app? I emailed them earlier also, so see what they say, so far NADA!

Absolutely awful customer appreciation. I was considering getting this but now it's no contest.

Eh... First of all $30/yr is too much for this app. $10-15/yr maybe, but NOT $30/yr. Secondly, I absolutely hate subscription services! UGH... The only one I have ever considered is MobiTV, but I doubt I would even get that...

I am currently paying for the following subscription service: verichat, worldmate (which i won't be renewing), and mobitv (won't be continuing if programming doesn't improve). And now Splashblog wants my money too? Thanks, but no thanks...I don't even use the app that often. If I want to pay for mobile blogging, I'll choose something else other than the psuedo Splashblog.

If I never had it, do I have to buy the app AND pay the yearly fee?

How do you take them up on the one "free" year? I have found nowhere to upgrade for free yet. Point me in the right direction?

Just put the word "UPGRADE" in the coupon section, when you add the app to your checkout basket. Only works for current customers. I guess we got a year for another developer to hear our demands.....

New version allows you to select multiple picture at the same time, that was sorely needed.

I am sure they made the change because the licensing protection was previosly on the installed software, and it was easily bypasses with the deletion of a certain file. Also, it was possible to have multiple accounts, which I used to share with different people.

Maybe now that it is free, i can create an account for each event. I rarely take more that 100 pictures on a long vacation, like going to hawaii or Cancun for spring break.

With a small price drop and multiple accounts possibilities, I will sign up
