I just replaced my Treo 600 with a new unbranded Treo 650. Although the 650 is really a great device, Palm seemed to have the need to fix some things that were not broken on the 600. I cannot find any reference or obvious way to resolve the following issues.

1 - The first seven favorites (including the four at the bottom of the screen) seem to be unprogrammable. I want to re-program these buttons for much more useful (to me) functions. I was able to do this on my 600 so it seems logical to be able to it on the 650 but I just can't find a way to do this.

2 - The sceen backlight goes out shortly after starting a call. That makes it, at best, very difficult to use the screen as it cannot be seen without the back light. How can I prevent the screen back light from turning off? I rarely use any consequential battery energy over a days usage so I do not care at all about conserving the battery with this blanking feature.

3 - The little light just below the antenna is incredibly bright. I keep the phone in a cradle in our bedroom so I can hear calls at night from work. The red/green solid light when on the charger literally lights up the bedroom. This was never an issue with my 600 but with the 650 there is just just too much distracting light at night (my wife strongly agrees). Is there any way to get control of this light?

4 - For a lot of years (going back to my Palm Vx) I used a secure memo pad (Certicom). It worked great until I loaded it on the 650. It locks up the 650 when I try to delete an entry. Any suggestions for a good secure memo pad would be appreciated.

For the led, I use a program called ledOFF and that lets me set the led to do what I want. Check out www.mytreo.net to see about this program.

I haven't found a way to disable auto dimming, but the backlight returns at the press of a button. I usually the direction buttons. I actually really like this feature, even though I am usually not too concerned about battery life.
