I had a great ringtone on my 7135 called The Islands... I tried just copying it to the treo but it wouldn't work because the file was 124 kb. So I split the file and have a 44 kb file that sounds fine in MS media player.

I load it on treo with LoadRingtone.exe and it shows up fine in the sounds choies but it doesn't make any sound????

I've tried other sizes but that doesn't help. Is there some secret setting of frequency or bit depth or something??? and if there is, how do I change it?

    thanks

    Tom

What is LoadRingtone.exe? I searched and didn't find anything.

This is the full mid file that played on the Kyocera (too large for Treo), so I cut it down with HJsplit and even under 64 kb it would not play. I tried usind Anvil on it and that wouldn't work at all for me.

It plays fine with windows media player... i LOVE this tone...it is so happy, I don't mind getting a phone call <g>

thanks for taking the time to check it out.

It doesn't seem to be a good midi file: neither Windows Media player nor Winamp will play it on my machine.

Is this the same one? I googled "the islands midi ringtone" to find it; it works.

    Vicar-

loadrintone.exe is a utility I downloaded somewhere that lets you add ringtones to a treo ...cost about $7 and for me it was all I needed since all the fancy ones do things iI don't really want to do.

    Bill-

It's very nice but not the same one. I am able to play the file I posted (the actual posted one) with both Windows Media Player 9 and Real Player 10 (had to DL 10 to play it, earlier one wouldn't).

If you know of a way to make it work, you would be my hero !

    1) You can't just chop up a MIDI file by splitting it into chunks and playing a chunk - it's a complicated file format. Use a MIDI sequencer to truncate the file properly and generate a valid file.

    2) Ignore the ringtone angle for the moment - does it play AT ALL on the Treo (i.e. normal media player)?

    Marcus-

2- I cannot play it on the treo. I only have Real Player and Audible Player on mine and neither will play it. Is there some other media player I should download and try?

1- What application would you advise to split with?

Tomoc, if nothing on your Treo AND nothing on Bill's PC will play it, it's seems clear that it's not a good file! I suggest you give up on it and try one that you CAN play on your PC. As for truncating it in a proper MIDI sequencer, it's years since I've used Cakewalk & suchlike, but I'm sure there are plenty of freeware MIDI editors around that can do the job - and a quick Google looks hopeful... here's one hit:

    Marcus-

I guess you are right...though I CAN play it on 3 different PCs using Windows Media Player 9 or 10.

I went to the site about and downloaded a newer version of ANVIL and it wouldnot play it. Also Jazzware and it gave an error message of WRONG FILE HEADER. Even though it came from a Kyocera 7135 (Palm OS 4), there must be some tweak in it that makes it different.

Is there some other way to use it? re-record it? etc?

    Bill-

Have you got Windows Media Player 9 or 10 or Real Player 10 on your machine?

thanks again, guys...this little pesty thing has been a quest since I first got my Treo... there just HAS to be some way to make it a ringer since I can HEAR it on my pc???

    cheers,

    tom
