    Answer
If you have Verizon Wireless service enabled, you will need adjust your settings to allow other sync applications or conduits to HotSync.

    1. In the Treo 650 from the Home/Applications menu, tap "Wireless Sync"
    2. Press "Menu" or tap the top-left of the screen
    3. From the drop-down menu, choose "Setup> Connection settings> Advanced settings"
    4. Check the box next to "Enable other sync apps".
    5. Tap OK to go back to the Wireless Sync screen.
    6. Try to HotSync.

With all due respect, but this is a different error. I'm experiencing this error too in my HotSync log and I'm on an international, unlocked GSM. Please also note the error code is different 0x8000ffff vs 0x00004004

Alas, have not found a solution yet. Already tried dbScan, but to no avail.

I suggest that you drop a line to Chapura support.

I just experienced this exact same error:

Error: 0x8000ffff Adaptor failed to convert from device. <0x8000ffff> Error: 0x8000dfff An error occurred while converting a Handheld record.

Boo. This was working fine for me before. I'm going to contact Chapura and see what they can tell me. If anyone else gets an answer, I'd appreciate you sharing it, and I'll do the same!

Okay...I said I would post what I found out, so here goes.

First of all, I need to point out that some other app forced me into an endless reset loop (I had never experienced that before), so I had to hard reset anyway so now of course my calendar is fine. But the problems may start occurring again, so I'm going to keep what Chapura sent me for reference.

I've exchanged several e-mails with their support department and none of the things they told me to do worked (I didn't have to try the last one because it came after my hard reset). So ymmv.

    Step One
Right mouse click on your Start button and go to Explore. On the Crive: locate your Palm folder. In the Palm folder locate the folder that is a derivative of your name. In that folder open the date book folder and delete all the PM.dat files. Now try to sync one time with either Outlook overwriting the handheld or the handheld overwriting Outlook (whichever has the most up to date data). If you cannot do an overwrite, a two-way sync is fine. If you do the two-way sync the possibility exists that you may get duplicate entries.

    My files were:

    PMSettings.dat
    PMRels.dat
    PMRecs.dat
    PMCats.dat

That didn't work for me. I then got this message:

    OK Quick Install
    PocketMirror® 3.1.10.0 XT
    -- Outlook Calendar XT
Error: 0x8000ffff Adaptor failed to convert from device. <0x8000ffff> Error: 0x8000dfff An error occurred while converting a Handheld record.
Outlook Calendar XT - Recovery Sync New Base Folder New User synchronization failed

Conduit 'Outlook Calendar XT' Error: Unknown error. (65535)
    OK Outlook Contacts XT
    OK Tasks
    OK Memos
    OK BackupBuddy

HotSync operation completed on 09/27/05 17:56:18

    Step Two
If your calendar data is all in Outlook, sync the calendar one time with Outlook overwriting the handheld to resolve the problem. Click on the red and blue arrows by the PC clock and select Custom. Double click on Outlook Calendar. Select Desktop overwrites the handheld. Hit OK and Done. Sync.

So I tried syncing and having Outlook overwrite the handheld, but this time I had error messages pop up during Hotsync that said "bad heap mem" or "bad mem heap" or something like that. Here's the hotsync log.

    OK Quick Install
    PocketMirror® 3.1.10.0 XT
    -- Outlook Calendar XT
Error: 0x8000ffff Adaptor failed to convert from device. <0x8000ffff> Error: 0x8000dfff An error occurred while converting a Handheld record.
Error: 0x00001022 An unexpected exception occurred. Error: 0x10006410 Failed writing AppInfo block. Error: 0x10006410 - Could not clear Handheld's status flags. Please check your connections and try again. Warning: 0x10006410 Due to communications failure, the handheld database has not been closed.
Outlook Calendar XT - Outlook overwrites Handheld synchronization failed

Conduit 'Outlook Calendar XT' Error: Unknown error. (65535)
    -- Outlook Contacts XT
    SyncRegisterConduit failed.
    Error Code = ffffffff
Conduit 'Outlook Contacts XT' Error: Unknown error. (65535)
Tasks - sync configured to Do Nothing
Memos - sync configured to Do Nothing
Conduit 'HotSync Exchange' Error: Unknown error. (65535)
BackupBuddy: Skipping backup on BlueTooth HotSync
    OK BackupBuddy
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)

HotSync operation completed on 09/28/05 18:33:25

    Step Three
Please follow these steps to resolve your errors:

    1. In Outlook, open your Folder List. (Click on "Go" and select "Folder List").
    2. Click on your Calendar folder to select it.
    3. Click on View/Arrange By/Current View/By Category so that the records appear in a table view.
    4. Click on the column header "Subject" to sort the appointments by Subject.
    5. Look for any records with a blank "Subject" field. Open those records and verify that they are not legitimate appointments. If the records are blank or contain only unusual characters (i.e. , , ), delete those records.

Next, do a soft reset on your handheld device by pressing a paperclip into the reset hole on the back of the device for a couple of seconds.

Then, download the following program and install it to the handheld device. This program will look for any corrupt records that may be on the handheld.

    http://www.handango.com/PlatformProd...0&platformId=1

Download the dbScan file and save it to your Desktop. When the download is complete, go to your Desktop and double-click on dbscan.zip to unzip the file. Then, double-click on dbScan.prc to add it to your Palm Install Tool. Close the Palm Install Tool and synchronize. On the handheld, go to the Applications (House) screen and tap on "dbScan" to open it. Tap on "Start Scan" to locate and delete any corrupt records. Then, synchronize again with Outlook Calendar XT set to "Desktop overwrites Handheld" for one sync.

But I didn't try that one because I hard reset and everything's fine for now.

    Hope this helps someone out!
