    OK,
I've read a few threads here and other places, that refer to corrupt palm databases. I'm fairly certain I have a few, maybe all of them. I haven't been doing normal sync with Palm Desktop. I've had a 1Gig SD card in my 650 since I got it, and I have used CardBackup to backup every day . . So why bother , right? Well, I was having odd problems, so I decided that I would start from scratch. Hard reset, and then just restore my calendar contacts, and to-do, and notes. That's when things started getting funky. I couldn't get the phone to hotsync with palm desktop. Would always locks up. This is what makes me assume corruption. I tried , as suggested in several places, to only sync one thing at a time to figure out what is corrupt, but it seems that they all are. The question now is this....

How do I fix the corrupted files ? Or am I screwed ?

I have never used it, but the threads have spoke of dbscan. Try doing a search on that word.

    Cheers, Perry

    Follow these directions.

    Cool !
DBscan seems to have done the trick, mostly.

Now I can get througha whole sync operation, it just resets after the sync is complete.

    Two questions:
    1. Look at the end of your Hotsync log: are things being backed up or restored (installed)?
    2. Perform a Hotsync; after the reset, use your device's 377 code in the phone app: which app is implicated?

dbScan is excellent... nice little tool.... one of the better utilities around but not that well known outside the Treo community!

I had trouble with a corrupted contacts database before, and was able to use DB Scan to fix that problem. It was resetting any time I backed-up/restored the database, but it would back it up or restore it anyway. I got around it by backing up/restoring the troubled database, and allowing it to reset, then backing up/restoring everything else seperatly which would always go smoothly.

I have just recently added a contact from the application Dir Assist:
    http://home.triad.rr.com/rlwhitt/palm/

Any time I even scroll down the list of contacts in my phone, it resets. I have followed the instructions as I have done in the past to remove the deleted files, and it found 2 in my ContactsDB. The removal of those files did not have any positive effect on my problem that I can see.

I have submitted a support request for the Dir Assist application, but past experience is not promising. I have gone almost an entire year with out more than a random reset about once every two months on my Treo. Now, I'm stuck again with a bug I just don't want to live with. Where do I go next?

Have you tried deleting the recently DA-added contact from Palm Desktop's contacts and syncing with the Contacts conduit set to "Desktop overwrites handheld"?

    I had this same problem.

As Bill said, this has been fixed in the newest release. Computer overwriting the handeld contacts will get rid of the bad record; it won't happen anymore with the new DA version.

Just to add my two cents: This forum is amazing. Was going through a calendar/datebk reset disaster and I found this thread and seem to have fixed the problem with dbscan. Thanks!
