    I have a client who is using a 1GB SD card with his Treo 650 to store pics/movies shot of his kids, etc.

    Even after off-loading all such data onto the SD card, he says he is using up most of his on-board Treo memory.

    Two questions:

    1. Can you run Treo applications off the SD card?

    2. What can he/we do to free up more on-board memory so he can use it in a pinch when he doesn't have the SD card in the Treo?

    TIA

    Yes. The best way is with a launcher such as PowerRUN or zLauncher.

    Other than deleting or hard resetting, not much without a card. Also note that should you move programs to a card, and remove the card...well, you can figure the rest...no more programs! Why would he not have the card?

    Lots of programs can be run from the card. Even without a special launcher. I do not use a special launcher, and I have 18 MB free memory. Don't forget about moving Docs 2 Go to the SD card. Search for Dataviz Tech Tool.

    True, he can "Copy" his installed programs to the Card from the menu. And gtwo will thank you for mentioning the Tech Tool.

    ...and since Palm has never seen the need to include a "Move" command to that menu, he'll need to follow up with a "Delete" of the programs from RAM.

    See, THIS is the prolem with getting a Treo so late in the game; all the blindingly obvious good tips have already been stated, and then forgotten.

    I've never heard of the TechTool before. WOW! what a godsend. I got 3.5 megs back, and the tiny slowdown in speed is negligable compared to the memory I get back. Good deal.

    Progress? Well, at least I can get color traffic maps now...
    Psion 3a -> Psion 3c -> Palm IIIXE -> Palm VIIx -> Kyocera 7135 -> Treo 650 -> Centro

    Thank Perry for that. I believe he invented it.

    Yeah, I feel guilty. I should have waited until Perry showed up to mention the Tech Tool.
