I have been trying to use Chattermail 1.1rc2 with ClipPro 2.1.1 (ClipPro is an OS 5 extension that basically increases the amount of text that you can copy and paste). Very handy when copying large amounts of email text into, say, a calendar note.

Problem: ClipPro will not copy text from Chatter's message view. It will only copy message text if the message text is first "reformatted" by selecting "reply" or "forward" (ie in the "message composition mode"). This oddness has existed with Chatter since I can remember (from even before the last stable release).

Not that there is anything overtly malfunctioning with Chatter - the standard PalmOS copy-and-paste functions normally in the standard message view.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Is there a difference between how the text is presented in the standard message view versus in the "message composition mode"? I know this also a question for the (unreponsive) ClipPro developers, but the program seems to work with most apps except Chatter's message view (the only reason why I even have ClipPro installed). :-)

    Comments anyone? Marc?

It's that way with several apps, Snapper, Versamail, DTG, Blazer. The text has to be in Palm-Editable format in order for ClipPro to recognize it.

    Hmm. What is "Palm-Editable" format?

    Well...it's actually a term I made up.

From observation, I've noticed that Clip-pro can't see any text unless it's editable - which received messages in Snapper, Chatter and Versamail (not to mention text on a web page in Blazer) obviously aren't. The exception to this are apps like DTG - where even editable text can't be seen...it seems to exist in a somewhat "non-Palm" environment.

My point is, there are lots of applications in which Clip-Pro doesn't work, and it's completely reasonable that received messages in Chatter make up one of those environments.

Thanks for the info. I should have guessed it wasn't a Chatter issue! :-)
