After an Uninstall Manager misshap, I managed to delete some key files for Versamail. When I start it, I either get the message "MData Err: ERROR_NO_PREFERENCE_FOUND" error, or a reset.

Is there any way short of a hard reset I could get this app working again? I don't need any of the emails stored in the thing, I just want the client to work.

    Thanks for any help!

Since I can delete all of the Versamail files in RAM and still start Versamail, I'd say that this is a matter of your having hosed either your Saved or UnSaved Preferences. If you have a backup of your Saved Preferences file, try restoring it.

How can I tell what files in RAM are created by Versamail? I'd rather just delete them all and start over again.

Install FileZ and sort the Internal files by Creator ID; delete all files whose Creator ID begins with "asc".

I've followed the directions posted above, but cannot delete all of the as3 and as4 files from within Filez. On some of them I get "Error:dmatabase Open in Item::remove()d". When I go to actually launch VersaMail, I get "MDataErr(1202):Account not properly configured", and cannot proceed any further.

Any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Perform a warm reset (hold the 'up' button during a soft reset, release it upon the appearance of the grey/black Palm logo) delete the files and then perform a soft reset.

Thanks for the suggestion. After a warm reset I was able to delete all of the as3 and as4 files. I did a soft reset as you suggested. When I launch Versamail, I get a "System Error, Out of Memory" with the OK button. I click the button 3 times, then get the aforementioned "MData Err...".

I'm guessing that the error is probably due to another database/application causing the error, and I guess I'm trying to avoid reinstalling everything from the backup folder one item at a time...

Back to troubleshooting just like the pre-OSX days...
