I have ben having a problem lately with a reset happening every morning. It's almost like it is on a schedule. It effects whatever app I am in when I shut the phone off. It gives me error message "MemMove to NULL". I have switched hacks on and off to try and narrow it down, no help. I am currently running, Zlauncher, TreoGuard, Ledoff, Butler, Keycaps600, KB lightsoff, Verichat, Chatter. it usually happens between 5 and 7am. Also whenever I have a reset anytime lately it seems to be this error message.

I am using Butler 3.22. I have been turning off various apps and hacks to see if I can narrow down any problems. I am running today without keycaps600, seems solid as a rock. Mmmm. Keycaps is the only hack that works with every app. I will let you know if I get another morning reset...

No more morning resets and no resets since I disabled keycaps600. Interesting. this is the only program that has been on my phone since day one, and I have always had resets.

I have been having the same issue, with the reset wiping out my preferences. I have had to restore them from my backup on my SD card. I have ZLauncher and Butler running, and had a reset this morning just before 5am. Not sure why, because Butler doesn't alarm until 5. so I'm not sure what caused the reset, but it's really frustrating to have the phone lose all the prefs. Not cool.

Anyone know if there's something that can reset your phone for you at a scheduled time?

Do you have any other hacks running or just Butler, and ZLauncher? Is it only when you have an alarm set for Butler? Do you have more than one alarm set in Butler?

Now thinking about it the trouble cropped up when I had two alarms set it Butler. The one thing I haven't done is use the second alarm again since the last time it happened. Both times I had a morning alarm set I got errors throughout the day, they were both at different times, but both in the morning. Maybe we can put our heads together and figure this out, or at least alert the developer if there is a problem.

I have gone three days now without a reset of any kind. I still have keycaps600 off. I am going to set a second alarm and see if I can trigger a reset...

Last update, I had not had a "MemMove to NULL" since removing Keycaps600. I decided to take the chance and reinstall it last night. Got up this morning to find that there was a reset, "MemMove to NULL". Goodbye Keycaps600!

I received this email from Rob at Hobbyist Software today:

I think I've pinned down the elusive "Mem Move to Null" bug that has been intermittently causing crashes.

    Unfortunately for those who're getting it - I don't think Butler can necesarily fix it. I'll explain;

The tip off came from Travis who was kind enough to share a copy of his treo that was getting this crash when in the keyguard page. (Thank you Travis!)
I had a bug in that page which was allocating memory and not releasing it. The bug was easy to fix, and demonstrated the cause of the problem.
Basically, whenever Butler needs to access it's preferences, it needs a couple of k to put them in. If it doesn't get the memory, it crashes.
(I've put in a custom error message here now - so if you see "No Mem for Main Prefs" in an error log, this was the problem.

Now the problem is to find the memory leak (why is the Treo down to less than a couple of k free memory?). I've taken a fine tooth comb to Butler and I'm as sure as I can be that it isn't leaking.
If you have another app that is gradually using up all the available memory (anything that acts regularly such as a mail checker would be a posssible culprit), then there will be a point where Butler can't do it's thing and will crash.

Anyway, the latest Beta fixes the keyguard page bug, and gives a specific error messages if it ever crashes due to lack of memory (we can at least pinpoint the problem)

Let me know what you find.

    Rob

Bill, thanks for posting this. I am now trying to narrow down the possible memory leak. I have cleared keycaps of being the cause at this point because it has happened a few times without it being installed. I will post my results here if I find it.

I also saw this problem around 2 weeks ago & had Butler 3.22 & KeyCaps (modifed DSachs version) loaded. Coincidentally my unit was replaced at the same time so was hard to pin down what the cause was. I turned off the Butler Keygaurd which seemed to stop the resetting.

Thanks for the update on new version of Butler - The power of the search. I searched for "Keyguard + Crash" & this is the first thread listed. Thanks...
